Default Under Appreciated Songs by Popular Rock Bands

I’m always on the hunt to find hidden gems, whether it be songs by bands I enjoy or bands I’m unfamiliar with. The term underrated varies in meaning from person to person but I’m really looking for those deep cuts that leave the “I can’t believe this song isn’t more popular” impression when listen to it. Here are some of mine:

Artic Monkeys - Arabella
Temple of the Dog - Pushin’ Forward Back
Live - Lakini’s Juice
A Perfect Circle - Blue
Ratt - Slip of the Lip
RHCP - Fortune Faded
Pearl Jam - Glorified G
Pearl Jam - Rats
AIC - It Ain’t Like That
Audioslave - Set It Off
Warrant - Mr. Rainmaker
Deep Purple - Stormbringer
Van Halen - And the Cradle Will Rock…
Van Halen - Where Have All The Good Times Gone
Motley Crue - Knock ‘Em Dead, Kid
Smashing Pumpkins - Tristessa
Skid Row - Monkey Business
QOTSA - Turnin On The Screw
Stone Temple Pilots - Meatplow
Foo Fighters - Stranger Things Have Happened
Foo Fighters - Stacked Actors
Velvet Revolver - Headspace
NIN - Wish
Green Day - She
Deftones - Kimdracula
Slipknot - Sulfur
Nirvana - You Know You’re Right
Incubus - Mexico
The Black Crowes - Sometimes Salvation
Def Leppard - Women

Rocket Queen has been my favorite GNR song since Appetite came out. It's popular enough that they have always played it live but I don't think most casual fans are familiar with it.

Are you familiar with Catcher in the Rye from Chinese Democracy? It kinda reminds me of songs like Rocket Queen, November Rain, etc. Sort of a slow build for the first two thirds or so, then really kicks in at the end.

That whole album is underrated.

No, I've never listened to any of the GNR 2.0 stuff. I'll check it out. On a somewhat related note, I recently came across this youtube channel Band Geeks and they did a bunch of covers with Bumblefoot singing on them. They are 9 years old so nothing new but new to me. I had no idea that he was an amazing singer. He may have better vocals then Axl

Incubus- Love Hurts and Dig
GNR- Patience
Pearl Jam- Indifference
3 Doors Down- Landing in London
REM - Strange Currencies
Audioslave- We Got the Whip
Chris Cornell- Nothing Compares 2 U

I understand that none of these are deep cuts and are all pretty well known, especially Patience. I just feel like in each respective artists catalogue these are underrated songs that should be way more popular.

The others you listed are fine, but GNR- Patience? It is one of their most well known and popular songs, and huge hit on GNR-Lies and remembered for being different from their previous stuff. Over the years it has remained a solid song and the video has over 700 Million views on Youtube, still one of their great hits. Your disclaimer aside, Definitely doesn't belong anywhere near an underappreciated list.

I think it depends on how old you are. I was in middle school watching MTV every day when Patience came out so I know it was a huge hit song at the time. But I could see younger people might not have that context. When I hear GNR these days on the radio or anywhere it's usually Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child or Paradise City. I don't hear Patience as much these days.
Since my first choice for underrated GNR song (Rocket Queen) has already been taken I'll throw out Nice Boys, Think About You, Coma and Estranged. Coma and Estranged are too long to ever get played anywhere now so I think they are underated now. There aren't too many bad GNR songs from the classic era and most of them are underrated at this point so you can pretty much pick anything.

This exactly why I listed Patience as underappreciated. Of course, I appreciate it, but the kids these days, may not. They only hear the hard stuff from GNR. GNR Lies turned the perception of the band on its head in the industry and I firmly believe without the success of that EP songs like Don't Cry and November Rain from Use Your Illusion don't become popular.

Grandpa Rock is all so overplayed I can't possibly think of anything that is underrated.

These are the tracks from GnR's greatest hits album. I'm shocked not to see Mr. Brownstone or Estranged as I thought those were fairly big hits. I should note that Axl sued (of course he did) to try to stop the release of the album, so maybe a Greatest Hits Vol. II got shelved rather than go to court with Axl again.

I'm enjoying this thread, so I'll add "Even In His Youth" by Nirvana. It was the B-side from the Teen Spirit single.

A few of my favorite deeper cuts-some of these are considered classics, but certainly not the first tune most think of with these acts
Steely Dan-FM
Led Zeppelin- Br-Yr-Aur and Nobody's Fault But Mine
Pink Floyd- Vera
Rolling Stones- Rocks Off
Sturgill Simpson- It Ain't All Flowers
Red Hot Chili Peppers- Breaking the Girl
AC/DC-Ride On
Black Sabbath-The Wizard
Drive by Truckers- Three Dimes Down
Jimi Hendrix-Castles Made of Sand
Wilco-Handshake Drugs
REM-Try not To Breathe
Black Crowes- Thorn in my Pride
Blues Traveler- Carolina Blues
Stevie Nicks-Sleeping Angel
Eric Clapton-The Core
Grateful Dead- Loser
Bob Dylan-Band of the Hand
Allman Brothers- Don't Keep Me Wondering
