Default My uncle showed me his Spider-Man first appearance of Punisher comics, and was asking

I’m 100% a sports card collector, and after I showed him some of my graded cards, he reached out about me helping him to grade his two comic books he bought back when he was younger. I’ve done some research, and it looks like getting them pressed before grading is something that is recommended. The one on the left looks near perfect, the right one has been lightly read. I thought that they would be interesting to share on here, and get some opinions from people that actually know about comics on the grading process. Thanks!

Beautiful books, I sent you my comments directly via PM, you will certainly want to get them pressed/graded. :-)

So what does pressing a comic mean? Is it like cleaning a sportscard before grading?

you can submit them to cgc, and even include pressing there. a 3rd party company in relation to cgc will handle that part before grading. If you want to steamline it all.

I just did this Hulk 180 ......... it'll take about 6 months total. fyi

OP: spend the money and get these pressed and graded. You won't regret it.

I would only consider pressing if it'll actually help the comic get a higher grade. for example, if there's color breaks everywhere and a light fold or spine roll, I would just grade without pressing.

I used to think that way, but pressing is so cheap, versus the potential reward especially on a high value issue like this makes it well worth it, IMO.

100% clean and press. Even the smallest grade bump is worth it.

I have a guy who does it for me and takes care of the whole cgc submission process. Makes it very pain free. But I'm in the midwest. There might be someone near you that does it.

Based on the forum main page it says "My Uncle showed me his..."

Thankfully, you're talking about comics.

Yes, thank goodness it's comics.
He could've also titled the thread, "My Uncle Has A Beautiful Pair Of...", for similar classic "Three's Company"-style innuendo-based humor hi-jinx.

Just got this back from CGC a few weeks ago, and from my own personal experience, I can say pressing worked wonders on it. I was thrilled to get a 4.5. This was sent off in pretty rough shape. That being said, I had pressing damage some comics too. You need to be careful and know what you’re getting into.
