Default May Goldin Auction

Wow!! Can't believe what is on offer. A couple of thoughts;

This is maybe the greatest sports card auction I have ever seen.

The supply of Kobe cards hitting the market is both incredible and likely way too much.

Yawn! Just relax, take a break. In a few years things should get a little interesting. These days it's the same ole same ole.

I am already seeing cards from past Goldin auctions getting relisted (Kobe Nebula 1/1) which is disappointing.

Wait I thought they collect always that’s the motto...

They never have ever said that. Just have said a very high percentage in the high 90s, can't remember the exact number.

Smart money's cashing out and getting into MUDS and jersey numbered Soto NFTs.

This is what I posted in the Kobe thread before Goldin took the preview away:

Edit: I'm on the page now with my Kobe searches but looks like they shut it down and this was too early? Anyway, these were some of the hummers:

0.) Game worn and signed rookie jersey
1.) '97 PMG Red BGS 9
2.) Multiple '96 Finest Gold Refractors (PSA 10, BGS 10 and BGS 9.5, all w/o coating)
3.) '96 Finest Bronze Refractor w/coating PSA 10
4.) Metal Fusion Titanium /40
5.) Multiple '96 Flair Legacy cards, Row 0 and 1 from what I saw
6.) Two Jambalayas, PSA 10 and BGS 9
7.) Multiple '96 Bowman's Best Rookie Atomic Refractors
8.) Multiple Gem Topps Draft Redemptions
9.) '96 Precious Metal PSA 10
10.) '96 Ultra Platinum PSA 10 (Series One, RC)
11.) Metal Universe Championship PMG
12.) Both '97 Skybox Rubies
13.) '97 E-X2001 Credentials BGS 8.5
14.) Platinum Portraits BGS 9.5
15.) '97 Ultra Platinum Medallion BGS 8.5 (#1)
16.) Ultra Stars Gold BGS 8.5
17.) At least three '96 Topps Chrome Refractors
18.) Both '98 Credentials
19.) '98 Flair Masterpiece Row 1
20.) The Kobe/LeBron Exquisite MSG Dual Auto
21.) Both National Treasures Notable Nicknames Black Mamba autos

That's just the first page set at 100 results. It's overwhelming.
There were four pages of Kobe items. Gonna be great for buyers zeroing in on specific cards but I think some of the sellers are gonna be disappointed.

Kobe is obviously the star of this show but there is a TON of other amazing cards - MJ, LBJ, baseball HOFers.

But, again, it will be super interesting to see how many cards have been relisted from past auctions....

Haha. But what about their pre-approved bidders? That's what separates them from PWCC/REA/Heritage, right? Please. I swear, the April auction was the 5th time they've tried to auction off that 1970 Topps Alcindor PSA 10 pop 1.

Why was the Kobe Nebula relisted? Pardon my ignorance here, I thought auctions operates differently than EBAY.

My understanding is if you don’t pay you get kicked off the platform. Still possible that someone might bid beyond their means or shill an item.

Curious to see where that one goes on the relist. It already went for cheap last time.

Gotcha.

Yeah, some people were projecting it to be at least a $200k card. Still massive gains, I think the owner got that from a Jaspy's break.

It’s not a relist
Owner bought it to sell in the Kobe Bryant hall of fame auction
That card will now be at the HOF ceremony inducting Kobe and every HOF and attendee will get a catalog with it and the other Kobe items in it
Original buyer bought and paid for it.
I’m here, I read and reply to DMs
Try that. Before posting something like this please.

My buddy has a rather large Kobe and Kg collection hes collected them both since 96, he’s highly considering selling come HOF time. Do you guys sell collections on auction or just mostly singles? I’m assuming his Kobe’s and KGs are roughly 500-750k in value combined possibly more.

You’re quoting the wrong guy, the OP suggested it was a relist, so I was just following up on that.

In the very small chance that this is true, this would make the buyer of that card incredibly dumb. Has he/she seen how soft the market is right now?

Who buys a $120k card to sell 2 months later? It's a 1/1, so who is willing to go higher than the original price now? The original price never made any sense either. A 1/1 from a set after Kobe was retired goes for over a hundred K?

Sorry, not buying it.

I'm with you,
Just noticed, looks like another genius buyer or possibly the so called same buyer also purchased the 2019 Impeccable Kobe 1/1 auto (sold in April) to flip it because his HOF induction will net him double because it's listed again.. damn, why didn't i think of that..

Has to be the biggest overall auction of all time. I lost count of how many cards would be in the top 5 or 10 cards in most auctions.

Get them before they end up in collections....

Wow, a lot of these are true headliners and super rare, but also a lot of "meh, seriously?" lots mixed in.. like all of those three stooges that close out the auction. Is there even a market for that? Just seems like it clutters up everything and should be run in a different auction entirely in one big lot.

I am very curious to see how the jersey #8/150 Kobe Row 0 RC Legacy does since I own the #8/150 Row 2 (although this one is a BGS 10 and mine is a PSA 8 so big difference there). If I was the seller, I would be pissed at the description. It does not highlight the true rarity of the card.

Kobe only has 2 serial #'d rookie cards - EX Credentials /499 and these legacy /150. He has no 1/1 rookies. I would want this info front and center.

My first experience using them for this auction. Very anxious/excited to see what type of attention this auction draws. I like the fact that there are some huge basketball cards in here to draw the eyes of some big spenders

Regarding the relisting - i have no idea, but there's also the chance someone is doing a short term flip especially in Kobe HOF Month and it's not a relist
