Default 2021 Mowing Log

Didn't want to but yesterday I mowed for the first time this year. Damn neighbor mowed over the weekend. Let's see when he does it again, my guess is today.

Push or ride-on?

I'm in the market for a push mower.

Should I get a traditional gas one or a new electric one?

Riding, the Boo Estate is vast expanse of picturesque terrain.

Just get a goat instead of a push mower.

Doesn’t the goat get tired of you riding it around the compound?

Do you have a saddle for the goat?

They've come pretty far. They will run 1- 1 1/2 hours on a single charge. Just depends on how good they cut.
I just bought a battery string trimmer and I'll get it tomorrow. Makita has a deal where you get 2 free batteries that work in all their lawn equipment and tools.

I cut last week for the first time. Mostly to chop up the leaves and stuff from last fall.
I normally I do that late fall but we had so much rain here since November that it just dried out enough to run the mower without tearing up the yard.
I'll probably cut today since there is rain in the forecast the next couple of days.

That's what I'm hearing. Been looking at a few different options. Really like the EGO POWER+ Select Cut 56-Volt @ Lowes but also looking at Ryobi and Worx (cheapest). I'll check out Makita also next time I'm @ HD

A+, Impressive, first use, plenty of power and durability. 3 speeds and reverse. Used 2nd speed mostly.Thick, wet stuff didn't even slow it down. Handled ditches and canal bank with ease. After about 30 minutes batteries still had full charge.
I gonna buy the leaf blower next and maybe a push mower in the future.

Perhaps an appointment with Dr. Rick might help.

Not until another three weeks or so at Bnut Gardens. The last of the snow should melt from the shade areas in the next couple of days.

Anyone have good success with over seeding? My lawn gets almost all direct sunlight and we play volleyball on it weekly. I need something hardy that will hold up well that can also be purchased from Lowe’s or Home Depot? With grass I’ve been hit or miss over the years. I wanted to do a weed and feed but didn’t want to risk killing my lawn and having to start from scratch. Something that self repairs I think might be great like something with a lot of Kentucky Blue.

I used a contractors mix on about 1/2 acre lot with all day sun and got good results. It's formulated for the region. I believe it was Pennington and I bought it from Lowes.

I used a contractors mix (not Pennington or Scotts) last year to seed a new lawn I put in and it did great, came in full and almost too long to mow after a week and a half. (Went on vacation for a week just before planting it). However over half died off over the winter.

It has a ton of coverage, fairly cheap and I have a couple bags left (if they are still good). I've tried Pennington in the past with mixed results. Only had spots grow well and for the most part it didn't stick around. Had another batch not grow at all and at $70 a bag didn't want to risk it.

Every time I try and look up the reviews such as the Scotts 3x Ultrafeed the reviews of people totally burning and ruining the entire lawn scared me off.

I aerated and used a lime/fertilizer mix before seeding but I haven't had to do anything else since and it's been 5 years, so maybe that was the key.
I cut yesterday. Really didn't need it but we're suppose to get rain the next 3-4 days.

Look into a tall fescue if you have a lot of foot traffic. Just be sure before you seed with it because it’s thick and dark green and will really stand out when mixed with a blue, rye, creeping fescue mix.

I really need to fertilize and aerate. I’m sure that’s a part of it.

Half of the court we play on is dead by the end of July so it mixing/blending doesn’t matter. I don’t live in town where it would matter. I wanted to get in over seeding this month but the weather had been so nice we’ve already played twice.

I’ve looked at Tall Fescue but it’s hard to get a bag with much of it in the mix. I might have to suck it up and pay 2-3x normal cost and get a 100% seed of Tall Fescue or a Kentucky Blue online, which I’ve been told self repairs.

The JD Homestead will get its first mowing of the season this weekend. I got some fertilizer to put down on both lawns. Should be nice a green this year.

Unless you are mowing it when it's wet.
