These past few months I have been helping out my LCS to rearrange and get items accessible better to customers along with sorting and so on. I am amazed each day at some of the stuff that I find that has been forgotten about. The majority of the items are vintage, with odd ball and non sport sprinkled in. I continue to find items that I never knew existed like Presidential cards from the 50s, Deckle Edge cards (I found today) and so on.
I have talked with the owner and some of these items are not going to sell in the shop as there is not enough room to show them but also most customers do not collect them. So he has decided to have me sell them on ebay. He does not really mess with a computer and he definitely does not want to list them himself so I get to. Today I ran across what was probably my coolest find so far. I was digging through boxes and found an autographed 1954 Bowman Ted Williams. The cards is not in the best condition and the signature is a bit faded but still a nice card. I showed him and we moved it to our PSA pile. He then said "Have you seen the Harry Agganis card?" I had no idea who the person was so he told me the story behind it. It is a 1955 Topps RC of him that is autographed. Come to find out it is really his only card as he died at 26. I looked and looked and was not able to find any type of price or really much besides an old post on a forums that says it is pretty rare to have it on the card. I will grab a pic tomorrow of it. ![]()

Sounds like a fun project to work on. Digging through the piles not knowing what may turn up. Keep us informed on the unusual finds.

Autographed Agganis with cert and provenance is a very valuable item.

A signed 1955 Agganis should be sold by a major auction house.

I couldn't find another example of a 55 Agganis signed being sold. I would say that it should be subbed to PSA with a minimum grade of 5 or so with a request for an authentic red label if selling. The minimum grade is just my preference but a PSA red label would be a must if selling.
Should sell very well!

I am on my way to the shop now. I will post the pics of the Ted and Agganis. I also have another item I walk by at the shop everyday that I take for granted but I have a feeling everyone here will really like it.

Thanks for posting these cards. I like to see what people have tucked away that is really rare. Looking forward to seeing the Ted Williams and the other item you mentioned.

It really saddens me that it is inscribed. Being so rare it will still get interest but that definitely changes the market.

So youd pay the same for one with signed "To Joe" as you would one without that personalization?

Autos were different then, pretty sure personalization was preferred by auto seekers and Agganis has literally no autos out there due to his untimely death, so in this case yes- I would pay the same (if I needed one) and I'm sure others would too. (I actually collect Auto'd baseballs, and prefer ones I get in person or through signings to be personalized)

I collect autographs from the Doc Steen collection, for a number of reasons including the provenance. I have turned down signed M101-2s and M114s without the Steen provenance. Here are two of my faves...

The only case of a personalized autograph helping is the aforementioned provenance attached to a particular known autograph seeker/collector/historian. At least in my opinion. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

This is the case in modern books as well, but there is a growing shift toward a preference for inscriptions due to lower risk of counterfeits. Pretty much any single signed Michael Crichton is fake (subject of a major FBI bust), but the inscribed ones have a decent shot at being real (the major counterfeiter never inscribed any).

This makes me sick to my stomach. What in the world saddens you it was inscribed???! I’d rather have an inscription anyway, it shows the player had a real interaction. I’ve sat through countless lines with superstars busily signing their name not even looking at the people that they idolize. This is the exact opposite of that. Yuck.

Agganis autos are scarce enough that the inscription won't hurt it. I like it. And I wonder who "Dink" is.

I have no idea why those others are so big. I am only putting the one picture of the bat ATM. Let's see if anybody can figure out what it is. (No cheating from people have that been in the shop lol)

Mickey Mantle is also on the bat. 115 being their combined total in 1961.
