Default Topps going for hockey cards

So, in the Baseball threads, people are saying Topps is attempting to get in on making Hockey cards? Anyone hear of this? Any thoughts? Will Gretzky be available or is he an UD exclusive, like Orr? Don't know what I think of this, but might be an interesting move

They somehow make licensed digital cards already. I would welcome them no problem in hockey if true.

I would have no problem if Topps gets into hockey. No offence to Upper Deck, but it can't just be UD all the time. Something needs to change in my opinion. And if it's more competition, then so be it

I really liked topps gold label back then. I still bust it when I find it reasonably. Bring back chrome, finest. Some of it would be good.

There are some oddly expensive very short printed pacific cards of bad players. At least they tried some unique products. I remember getting a signed mini goalie mask in a box once.

I would welcome Topps and UD, if there is a max on the amount of product which can be released.

Agreed. Topps has been churning out a bunch of crap in nonsports the past year or so (ruined Walking Dead). And Topps back in the day was pretty much crap as well (for hockey).

Don't really care unless they bring back Heritage Hockey and start Archives hockey.

They can't really do either as UD already does it. UD owns OPC and they do multiple OPC sets a year.

They do release OPC sets, but not using Topps vintage hockey designs. The licenses Topps gave OPC reverted to Topps after use and cannot be used by UD.

In fact, it was UD's attempts to use their ownership of the OPC brand to use Topps designs that got them kicked out of the baseball market.....

Seems legit. The 08-09 OPC hockey set has the 79-80 OPC retro as a parallel insert set. Shortly after, UD lost its MLB license. Since then UD has made more retro parallels that remind you of old OPC cards but aren't exactly so.
