I was at Nationals and really only had one question to ask each dealer: Do you have any Panini Instant cards? I heard all kinds of responses:
- No - Don't understand it - The people who want them already bought them - It's niche I never heard yes, and I did not see any Panini Instant. Some of it is that these cards are a bit rarer with lower print runs than pack cards. But I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that there is an Old Guard within this hobby that has already capitalized themselves around the break boxes/ open packs model, and they don't want to open a new product line to distract people from what they are already invested in - I do get it. On the other hand, with the lower attention on this product, I'm excited to see if I can pick up more Mahomes cards with print runs less than 200. Also like that the Red base color is a team color for Mahomes. I know this is Topps Now, but seems everyone in the other categories want all the "Instant/Now" stuff over here. Hoping to keep this thread going and encourage other who like Panini Instant cards to join the discussion. |

I bought a 25 pack of the Justin fields draft card am sitting on them right now. At $4 a card, it’s not bad to flip these later when/if he becomes the QB fans are hoping for. |

Justin Fields is definitely one to watch. Chicago is all in on Fields.
I disagree with the comment from Nationals that everybody who wanted the card already bought it when it came out. Look at the earliest Topps Now Haaland cards as an example of how the hobby misses the boat on some of the rookies that debut in on-demand. It's not like everyone made a clear purchase decision and said no. It was missed. Last football season, James Robinson's first pro-uniform rookie card debuted in Panini Instant, only 199 printed. Nobody knew of James Robinson at the time, and I mean nobody, not even Panini. Prestige, Certified, Donruss, Prizm, Optic, Mosaic, list goes on of products that left out Robinson. In basketball, Moses of Oklahoma City was left out of most products. His rookie debut was in Panini Instant. So it may be niche, but it also debuts rookies that get missed in the other products. |
