Switching my focus toward signed memorabilia, and looking into adding some signed helmets to my collection. I know viewing wise it's really not going to matter, I'm just wondering value wise. Will pro line authentic helmets hold value more than replica helmet? Just wondering your preference I guess.

Absolutely! I own both but a majority are authentic or tk suspension for that era. Not a ton of difference to the untrained eye just sitting on the shelf however there is a pretty good price drop from authentic to throwback.
Way I look at it I really like to get mini helmets for space and stacking ability but when I look for full size a good deal typically pulls me to replica vs authentic.

I picked up a replica Riddell last December for like $50. It is a tad smaller then a authentic one but it still the replica looks just as good with autos on it as the authentic one does.

100% pro line is the way to go. I own about 8 pro line auto'd helmets and 1 replica.
The only reason I own the replica is the price was too good to pass up on and I had the cash in my pocket at a show. the pro-line helmets just feel like a better product overall. The padding in the replica I have feels like cheap foam, and in my opinion the helmet overall just doesn't have that shine to it.

I think the real helmets look a lot better. I only but proline helmets. They are more expensive but they hold their value a lot better, and the plastic is different (usually denser and has more shine) which I think displays the signature better. If you can swing it, go for the proline.

Valuewise Pro Line helmets sell for a lot more and just visually look way nicer IMO. I only have a couple Pro Line helmets but they REALLY stand out.

Yup on the above. If you only have full size replicas they still display nice. But add just one signed Pro line to the mix and you can see the difference in a heartbeat!

Depends on how and what you collect. I collect full sizes and have around 90 signed so far so for me, costwise, reps are the way to go

I know nothing about autographed helmets so maybe some help... Where's the best place to find autographed Pro Line helmets? And where are the best prices? What would an Emmitt Smith signed Pro Line helmet cost? And how should it be displayed? Thanks in advance for any help!

Authentic. Replicas are the Red Headed step-child of memorabilia collecting....

What's is everyone's opinion on signed helmet future value? I mean HOF signed authentics can only hold steady or go up right? I'm weary of spending 4-500 on an Aaron Rodgers signed helmet but would feel better knowing that the value is never going down...

As long as he does not do anything criminal he should hold his value if not increase it if he wins any more SB's or MVPs.

Pictures wont really help you unless you are looking at one of each in the same pic. Not to mention Pro Line weighs more than twice as much. If you are looking for an investment Pro Line is what you want. I'd venture to say for every one Pro Line signed you'll see 10 full size replica's. The helmet itself is an investment.
Would you want a cheap replica jersey signed by your player or an on the field authentic? Its the same thing. You are getting the player to signed something they COULD use while playing VS something that was created to be collected alone. |
