Post Newbie question.

First, hello to all on BO. I have been lurking on the site for a while now and appreciate how this site comes together to help each other out.

I currently have a redemption card listed on eBay for a BIN or best offer. I have a potential buyer in Taiwan who wants the card, but I have informed him that I do not ship outside the U. S. He has responded, "I will pay direct, just send the code." I informed him that a transaction like that would leave me no recourse if a claim was filed. I would be out everything.

He has a perfect eBay record, with no neutral or negative feedback. His eBay user ID is lebron730913 in case anyone has any past history.

I am sure I am doing the right thing, just wondering as a new seller if I am being over paranoid?

Never e-mail codes, inside or outside the US.Feedback doesn't mean squirt,I opened up more cases with buyers that had perfect feedback this past year than not.Tell him thanks, but no thanks.

All buyers have perfect feedback, unless they sell as well. Sellers have not been able to leave less than positive since 2009.

You would have zero protection if you emailed the code.

Is you are selling a card? You sell and ship a card. If you don't ship International. It just a polite answer with a big "No" or maintain silence and add to your block list.

In other words. Agree with the others. You are in position to lost.

I have won tons of redemptions auctions, pay for the card with no shipping charges, they email me the code, I redeem, I leave feedback, they leave feedback, BANG DONE. Transaction done from start to end in less than 5 minutes. You have the redemption in hand, you show in an email you sent the code, how can the Buyer complain? Customer Service at the card company would also work with you when you have that information to cancel the redemption the Buyer put in if they opened a fraudulent case against you.

If you do not prove delivery Ebay/Paypal via the USPS or other mail service then they can and will take your money if the buyer says they never got it. Email proof does not work for their policies at all.

Also I would wish you good luck thinking the card company would help you or get involved.

Old thread I know, but I searched this eBay ID in google to see if anyone had the same message as me.

I just had this buyer ask me the same thing, I called eBay and they said as long as you had it documented in the messages that he asked for the code, than you're covered. He cannot claim he got an unscratched card. He paid, I sent the code, and now I'm sending him the scratched redemption to show eBay I delivered. He gave me positive feedback instantly. He's just a buyer in Taiwan who doesn't want to wait two weeks for a code, which I don't blame him.

Useful update, thanks!

I don't trust anything Ebay reps say until they actually do it. They are good at telling you what you want to hear to get you off the phone.

eh, either way it's prob a safer way to do a redemption anyway over eBay. I mean at least there's proof of what the buyer wanted. I would have ZERO chance of winning a case if the buyer got the unscratched redemption shipped and they claimed that it arrived scratched and redeemed. There's at least some evidence siding with the seller in a case like this. Redemptions are tough, you either have to wait for a year to get it redeemed, or hold your breath the buyers on eBay aren't trying to rip you off lol. Prob why I sell a lot of items like that here.

I did this for someone in Korea once. I figured that if there is documented communication of the request, and I took a video of myself scratching and sending the code I would be ok. Buyer left feedback immediately, no issues. To each his own and your mileage will vary. Whatever you do, always try to CYA.
