Default National vs Shipshewana

Don’t crush me. I’m a noob. First time caller long time listener

I’ve been to the National every time it’s in Cleveland. One day is plenty. I’ll spend a whole day and might get an autograph or picture but that’s enough for me. I have no interest in multiple days

This is for my kid

He had a blast in Cleveland last year. He’s also 10. Going to Chicago, AC, etc… seems dumb

How would you compare Shipshewana if all you want to so is walk around for one day

At age 10-13ish

At some point we can make it a vacation but he isn’t there yet

He will just be pissed to hear about the IX center (even though it makes total sense for Cleveland)

I’ll hang up and listen

Driving distance before someone tells me Dallas or whatever. That’s for a few years from now

Indiana is an easy drive and cheap hotel for one night

Just to clarify

Seriously?

Am I an old man or young man to know what the show is?

In all seriousness it’s a massive weekend card show in Indiana… I assumed this was common knowledge

That’s why I’m asking

If you don’t care about autographs (meaning the IP stuff you’re paying for) how much of a difference is there?

National is obviously king if you want stuff signed

Never heard of it. Had me wondering if you were Amish since that's the heart of Amish country...

Nope

I was at CC2 discussing the other day. They said they sell more at this show

Said if all you want is to walk around booth, not worry about autographs and/or the YouTube crap, it’s a comparable show

Apparently I’m wrong

So never mind

Shut it down. I’ll just take my kid to AC to gamble. Haha

Live in South Bend and I've never been. Shipshewana is Amish Country, but there is plenty to do outside of the card show as well. They do have a flea market every Saturday that will have some sports cards as well, so while I can't speak on the card show itself there is enough there to spend a day there and is worth the visit.

Fanatics fest might be a better option if your kid likes more high tech stuff

I have gone to the Shipshewana show for years. It has grown into one of the best shows in the country. The two shows this year are the first in the Michiana Center as they completely outgrew the old venue. And it is a huge show, but are still using less than half that building. So there is still a lot of room to grow.

As for your questions, I think it would be perfect for your needs. I go to the National each year and could never spend just one day there. But that's just me. Shipshewana is about the perfect size for someone who wants to spend a day at a card show. For one, it's free on Saturdays. And with over 400 tables, it isn't so large you feel rushed yo see it all in one day, but big enough that if you want to spend all day, you'll have plenty to look at.

And being in Amish country in the middle of nowhere, it's a pretty laid back area. But Shipshewana is a big tourist destination, so lots of little shops and restaurants to keep the family busy as well. My wife will spend half the day at the show and go shopping the other half.

There is no substitute for the National. It's just on another level. But for the big regional shows, Shipshewana has grown to be close to the level of the other big boys like Dallas and Philly. You'll enjoy it. They also do fun things for kids like a scavenger hunt where they are given things to look for at several participating dealers. And they get prizes.

OP - Ship is incredible for walking around there is just so many tables. Def a mini National without the autos and guests obv. It would be a great trip coming from OH

Just not sure about everyone saying the “lots of other stuff to do there part”
I mean it’s typical Amish Town which you’d probably find outside of a Columbus an hour or two in each direction.

My two cents.

I guess it depends how you like to spend your time. My wife loves all the little shops. And there are literally dozens of them, including several indoor shopping centers full of kitchy amish stores. There are also several other convention-type venues, with flea markets and other shoes regularly going on. During the march show there was a big gun show in town the same day. As a gun collector, that was right up my alley. Additionally, there are several large farms that give tours that can keep the family entertained as well. Sure, most amish towns have the same type of tourism, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to do. I can go to Disneyland in Cali, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do in Orlando. But again, it depends what you're in to. My family enjoys the amish shops. Your mileage may vary.

Probably was a bit lost in my post but My point was Ship ain’t that much different than if you drove a bit outside Columbus and went to say Sugarcreek if you wanted an Amish type experience

Great card show though

Sorry, when you said you disagreed with the "lots of other stuff to do part." I took that to mean you didn't think there was lots to do. Not that you thought what was there was also available elsewhere.

Have you been to the Xenia OH show? Doesn’t have the flash of the National but there are a lot of tables. Last time i went it was in two fairground “barns”. Heard it has grown to four. I need to get back there.
