Default Official 2024 New York Giants Everyone > Daniel Jones Thread

I figured we needed our 2024 Giants thread earlier than planned.

Draft seems to be going well with the addition of Nabers and two possible starting defensive backs. Obviously we won’t know for another few years but Nabers was that rare situation where he was the best available and the biggest need at the same time.

Looks like they’re trusting the offseason additions at OL to be enough to keep either Jones or Lock from getting killed. They obviously had many holes to fill and ultimately decided the secondary was important in this draft. I’m ok with it. I assume they grab one of these RBs late or possibly a tight end for insurance on Waller. Possibly add some OL depth here in the 4th.

Unless the wheels fall off I think Daboll and Schoen are safe this year. The coaching turnover has really screwed us on roster composition the last few years.

I'm excited about Nabers, I was always on him to be the pick. If healthy I'm in on DJ still too. I think it's there, he's had the worst receivers, worst OLine basically ever to try and build around.

I think we are going to be much improved, but we still need a starting CB opposite Banks, and we need depth on the DL. We really need a DT with one of our final two picks. Having only 6 picks in the draft really hurts our ability to take some shots on good depth pieces (although I'm happy to have Burns).

Im looking forward to Nabers as well. Unquestionably the biggest threat DJ will have ever had. Hopefully he’s fully healthy for the start of the year but they obviously brought in Lock just in case he isn’t.

Defensively we could be a top 10 unit with the addition of Burns if Kayvon can keep growing as a pass rusher. The secondary is definitely the biggest question mark but hopefully these 2 rookies are ready to contribute. A pass rush will certainly be the key to it all.

I think Danny Dimes can be a Top 12 QB if the team doesn't hang him out to dry.

Would really have liked Jaylin Wright with our fourth pick

Seems to be the case now with the fanbase. I’m with Seth and Frenzy that he never really got the chance. He certainly has disappointed more than achieved. Drake Maye seems like he was the only QB the giants wanted this year.

Very excited that we got Nabers though.

By the way, I am legit serious, I think Drew Lock will play well and take DJ's job.

Good luck with the thread derekbauer. I think this could be a competitive team but still not ready to win yet. The offense picked up a good piece in Nabers but it is still hard to be a good quarterback when running for your life. The blocking has to come together and we will see if Barkley was a plus or minus for the offense without him here. The defense like others have said need to be much better on the pass rush as their secondary gets exposed because there is no pressure on the quarterback. Dabol is an okay coach but unless they show some decent improvement this year his rebuild will be blown up as it seems to be taking awhile. The injury to Jones slowed it down but I think the playoff blowout loss to the Eagles hurt more than we fans think as it exposed a lot of their weaknesses. I don’t really get into the draft stuff so excuse me if I didn’t talk much about that.

Thanks Spuds I always look forward to your insight and opinions on Big Blue. Let’s hope all the FA money they spent on OL and the big contract/trade they made to acquire and lock up Burns makes a big difference. They went into the offseason needing to address a lot but the key spots were OL, WR, Secondary and edge/pass rush. On paper they did a pretty good job of that if these guys pan out. Secondary looks like it will be the biggest question mark but I really think if Burns/Thibs/Dex are healthy they will have a fierce front DL. Let’s not forgot Azeez if he can somehow stay healthy to be a rotational pass rusher that would be amazing.

As far as the draft they did just about everything they were expected to once they chose not to take a QB. By all accounts the 2nd round safety should be a day 1 starter to replace McKinney and we all know what Nabers has a chance to be. The TE from Penn State in the 4th has high athletic upside but anything past the 2nd round is a wild card.

I think if healthy they have a chance to repeat the 2022 season and at least compete for a wild card. They just don’t have enough fire power to be a real threat but they certainly have a good core of defensive players that gives us a little bit of optimism.

Now that would be poetic justice.

Devito was never more than a practice squad guy. There's a reason he was mediocre at two bad-average football programs in college.

He certainly cashed in on his 15 minutes of fame.

Yes he did and good for him. But people need to stop pretending like he's going to magically become a good QB for the first time in his career

From SI-

"The Giants, who, despite general manager Joe Schoen’s proclamation before the draft that he would be comfortable going into 2024 with the trio of Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito, tried to move up to the No. 3 pick held by the New England Patriots to land North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye. The offer, per multiple reports, included two first-round picks and the Giants’ second-rounder this year"

Sounds like they aren't 'all in' on Jones. Personally, Give me some Drew Lock and Tommy Cutlets any day over Jones.

Tommy Cutlets will catch on with some team someplace because he proved he can be a patch work starter in 2023. 64% pass completion, 8 TDs to 3 picks, and led his team to 3 wins with no high caliber receiving weapons. He will get a shot someplace easily on a 53 man roster

Looks like the Giants will play in Germany against Carolina according to some schedule leaks. Good thing is that it is one of their road games. What a bad way to represent the NFL in Germany though yikes.
