Default Plastic Scale Model Kits

Anyone remember the old plastic scale model kits? Assembled with rubber cement, and you could also paint them and apply those tricky decals (soak in water then CAREFULLY slide off)? I had some pretty cool ones - muscle cars, tanks, and WWII fighter planes. Revell and Tamiya were the big brands.

Those were so much fun!

In the 70's, Thrify's had a whole isle of them. I never built any, but it was always fun to look at the packaging (mostly car and planes, as I remember). They always had signs that you had to be 18 to buy the glue.

I remember the glue had a slightly citrus smell.
My brother making me be the Germans playing army men and giving me the models to build he didn't want(Panzer tanks, Germans fighting in the Stalingrad snow dioramas) is sorta what started my weird WWII collecting as an adult.

Mine, when finished, never looked as good as the pictures on the box.

These are actually making a comeback (kind of) some how, I was in a Walmart somewhere recently and they had an entire end section of an isle full of them. It brought back a lot of memories. I never built any of them but my brother loved them.

When I was eight years old, if you asked me my favorite color I'd probably say Olive Drab or Gunmetal Gray.

Hobby Lobby has a lot of these.

When I was a kid I would hang finished planes from my ceiling.
