Especially as a Cubs fan - it’s bewildering thinking that he’s still an active player and is still only 33 years old. Injury history (lack of played games) and signing with the Rockies have practically nailed his coffin. Has anyone else quite had a story like this? Hyped prospect - ROY - MVP - World Series - one of the faces of the game to “oh I remember him” and then realizing he’s not even retired?

hes a great cautionary tale for "investors" indeed

As a Rockies fan, it is still easy to forgot, given the numbr of games he's missed.

The first 2 that popped into head my head as comps were Kirby and Donnie Baseball, however they both realized they were finished and retired before they really embarrassed themselves. I don’t really have a problem with a star that spends his last few years being league average, because I assume they still have something to offer the younger players. If you’re not available for most of the season and stink when you are playing it might be time to call it.

I traded a psa 9 87 fleer mj for a stack of high end (great at the time) Kris Bryant and Carlos Correa. I was so sure they were the next big thing. I mean they were the next big thing in 2017! Ah well

Sounds a lot like Cody Bellinger unless he's somehow able to right this sinking ship back up. |

Johan Santana was the greatest pitcher in baseball for a good stretch.
Faded very quickly imo. You wanna really blow your mind? As I type this STARLIN CASTRO is not 35 years old yet. That blows my mind every time I think about it.

That’s actually insane. Seems like a guy that could be 39 years old.

It seems like the Jurickson Profar hype was a lifetime ago, but he's only 31 years old (32 before the season starts).

I confess: I went all in on Kris Bryant during his MVP season. After the Cubs won it all, I thought he had what it took to be the new face of the MLB (power, MVP, championship, looks, etc). I certainly did not think he would drop off the face of the earth this quickly. I’m glad I sold my Kris Bryant collection when he still had semi-value while his cards were trending down.

Oddly enough I just bought two KB 1/1's from his Cub days. Wanted some rare cards to commemorate the good old days. They're very affordable now.
That said. I have no intentions on buying any more of his cards. The plan was just to get one. But two that I like popped up within the span of a week and I said "what the hey?"

I enjoyed watching him on the Giants in 2021. Saw him hit a dinger against the A's that season. He had a good series against the Dodgers in the LDS, going 8 for 17 with a homer and a walk.

A lot of people don't realize that the reason Bryant fell off a cliff was due to being hit in the head by a pitch. He hasn't been the same since. That has a way of affecting a person both physically and mentally.

He'll still never have to pay for a drink or a meal in Chicago. That guy burned BRIGHT for 5 years.

Oooof. At least you didn't also chase Bellinger too to complete the trifecta.
