Default Potential Fanatics Scam

I got a call earlier today from someone from Fanatics to see if i wanted to ordered any of Topps Chrome Cosmic, since i ordered some Topps Chrome basketball value boxes. They knew what i ordered before, but i thought it was super odd Topps/Fanatics was cold calling. Not too surprising if the cosmic pre-sale wax isnt great, given it's releasing days after xmas.

They offered a fair/reasonable price, but i declined simply based on seeming odd.

I contacted Fanatics customer service, who checked with their supervisor, and they said they don't call folks.

So perhaps a data leak at Topps/Fanatics?? Or maybe their customer service isnt tracking, they are trying to market this way now.

Either way; just be careful.

Some people have mentioned before that they have Fanatics reps that offer products to them. I do not have experience with any so maybe someone else can chime in.

No idea what the customer service person was looking at - yes, Fanatics sales reps call people who have placed orders.

Fanatics probably noticed you haven't gambled with them in awhile so wanted to reach out and see if you wanted to get back in at a low price on those cosmic boxes.

Ok, thanks for confirming…. I was going to say I really didn’t order much from them originally. This is their plan to 10x the hobby I guess.

They lied since they probably shouldn't be soliciting based off previous orders lol bad business practice to even do it but no one complains since most times it's to get a discount or product that is difficult to buy on the open market lol

I got a call from a sales rep last week too. I am used to him calling though. Maybe you unknowingly have a box checked about being open to promotions / offers / etc

I know this was a joke, but it also wasn't. They've basically adopted sports betting algorithms to their business model IMO

I get a call once a month or so from my sports betting agency

Also rather ironic that I've had some random guy email my website/business that I use alongside ebay to sell some cards, try to flip me a list of sports betting contacts that he "acquired" from his old job lol

Full degen

Not a joke . I read the article recently about Draft kings contacting people who had not bet in awhile to get them back in the "game"

They're the best people to know so you can get more action down on their higher limit accounts, since inevitably they will be terrible at SB.

Scum company you should do everything to cut off contact with. Years back I bought a hat from these scumbags and the spam started rolling in. You can unsubscribe from the link but it'll never stop and they'll never let go of your information and spamming you. I created a filter to junk everything that comes in with their name. The way they go about their business is illegal but they don't care.

Key points about the CAN-SPAM Act and unsubscribing:

Must provide an opt-out option: Every commercial email must include a clear and easy way for recipients to unsubscribe.

Prompt action required: Companies must process unsubscribe requests within 10 business days.

No cost to unsubscribe: Opting out must be free for the recipient.

I had to block my rep.

Bro was thirstier than a backpage lay. Pretty much spammed my phone 5x a day whenever there was an unlicensed blaster re-up.

I picture those fanatics reps as Christopher and his 2 dumb pals pumping bad stocks to suckers in that one episode of The Sopranos.

Your opinion may be that it is bad business practice, but this is the norm for most businesses and not at all exclusive to them. I ordered Cavs tickets for Black Friday 3 years ago when you could get club seats for $30 and the team wasn't very good. Now I get non-stop calls from Cavs reps asking if I need more tickets. I stay at a Hilton on the way to visiting my sister and now Hilton calls me all the time with hotel offers. I went to Urgent Care for the flu 3 years ago and the doctor who saw me has had secretaries calling me trying to make her my PCP (maybe she needs more patients?). The list goes on and on.

I’m curious how it’s “bad business” for sales people to solicit based on previous purchases. It’s a pretty large part of any sales team.

One of the many negatives of capitalism unfortunately.

Which is why I'm not bothered by it. The pros far outweigh the cons. I work for a private company, I own a business, and I trade in the stock market. All capitalist activities that support my household and give me independence to choose how and where I earn income. I don't want to get into a political discussion but I've run into my fair share of people who think the world would be amazing if we all lived in 1,200 sq. ft. houses and bartered for everything. Yuck. I'll deal with unwanted calls.

I'd take a 1,200 square foot house if it was provided at no cost to me

No you wouldn't. At least not based on the conditions I described above. It's a pointless argument regardless because it would never happen. We will never have a society that is 100% privately owned, nor will we have a society that is 100% publicly owned. You could expand social programs to the max and a barber would still be allowed to open a shop, charge what he wants, and own his business. Capitalism will never cease to exist.

I'm obviously a capitalist but over time, I've evolved more so from a true capitalist anything goes so long as it's legal to a capitalist who hates the final innings of an industries evolution. That's where the majority of the evil is at in the western world (at least root of it). Hyperfinancializtion, maximal impressions/sales funnels, slimy salsemen, 70-80 hour work weeks to outcompete, spam, robo calls, fraud both white collar and criminal, hyperleverage, insider trading, not to mention negative cultural/societal impact.

Probably a combination of getting older/more tired/west coast life where the problems are pervasive, and seeing Europe in more detail this year.

I'm with you. That makes sense. I like your channel and that's the kind of thing I would never want to give up. Just the ability to wake up everyday and be in control of what I buy/sell and how I do it. I actually tried the solicitation thing once and it created WAY more work for me lol. I saved the email addresses of all my Series 1 buyers (base sets, master sets, team sets) and then the following year sent them all an email asking if they wanted to buy the same item. It was so much to keep track of! I never did that again. I just list on eBay now and let the buyers come to me. I don't want 70-80 hour work weeks either!
