Our best athletes don't play soccer. Infact, they play ever other sport except soccer and this is why we have to look over seas to fill the USMNT roster.
Can you imagine Lamar Miller as a striker? Or if Kobe Bryant dribbled with his feet instead of his hands? What if Tyreek Hill showed his speed out on the soccer pitch? We could field a Dream Team every year of American born/raised soccer players who are also World Class Athletes and who are the envy of World. No one envies American soccer, but they would if they faced our best athletes again and again. My point is this. Youth soccer (the pipeline) in America doesn't produce world class Mbappe types athletes, just good enough soccer "players" who occasionally outperform our expectations long enough to ultimately disappoint. You want to win, don't blame the coach. Its our players who must get better. Start putting our best athletes on the field, and not just good soccer players and become dominate like the USA is in other arenas. GBTUSA! |

We have 10-30x the population of every country in Europe, our B and C athletes should outdo their A team.

America’s best athletes don’t play soccer.
They play the 4 big sports. Obviously most countries don’t have this problem, although it is changing to a degree as popularity and scouting goes global. If Erling Haaland grew up in the US, he would not have played soccer. He would have chosen American football most likely. It also doesn’t help that the US keeps rolling out many of the guys who have been on USMNT for years. Clearly they aren’t capable of bringing greatness to US men’s soccer. Find some new blood. The coach isn’t the one blowing runs and making mistakes on the pitch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's also the structure of the pipeline/farm system.
Overseas, when a star player transfers, all the previous clubs associated with that player get a piece of the pie and can then use those resources to re-invest in growing more talented and skilled players. And yes, we have a way bigger population but that doesn't matter if every kid is playing basketball/football/baseball. We'll be good in soccer 10 years after you see a bunch of kids just playing "pick up" soccer in driveways, neighborhoods, etc...

Perhaps NIL deals for student athletes will help in this area.

So, in order to win more games, we need better players?
I can't believe no one in charge has ever thought of that before.

Well, the big 4 leagues minimum salary are over $700k per year. MLS is 10% of that. If you are looking to be a professional athlete, what do you try first? (or what your parents will make you try fist?) BTW, Kobe loves soccer.

I don't know if he's serious or not, but plenty of people in the US think that's the reason USMNT haven't won any World Cup.
It's real and it's out there.

There’s a reason no American player is considered top 10 players in the world. Pulisic is awesome and I root for him, but he’s no where near top 10.
You can’t compete against the world with retreads every season or every 4 years. My son loves soccer and has potential beyond HS. He also kicks for the HS and has some interest from schools for that. Kids who do both are more likely to pick football in college vs. soccer because a.) scholarships are better and b.) the potential earnings for an elite placekicker far outweigh a pro soccer player. There aren’t many incentives to play soccer beyond HS as well when so many foreign players are now coming to American colleges. My son has been to several camps where the college rosters were almost 50% or more international. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Clubs and the entire framework of the sport is just vastly superior at growing talent outside the US especially in Europe. You can say the US best athletes play Football, Baseball and Basketball sure but when other countries have clubs that stick 6-12 year old kids in dorms and they get the level of coaching that say a place like La Masia provides we've seen how that translates to growing talent at the International level. Growing talent and selling players is big part of the sport globally.
The US is even falling behind in the women's game because of their model. While we have athletes playing in high school and then college and then spreading the talent among dozens of NWSL teams and scattered across Europe the Spanish assembled Spain Version 2.0 The Women with the bulk of Barcelona and Spanish WNT playing together 24/7,365 using clubs to develop them. Good luck competing with that. |

when you realise that there's much more to football than just being the 'best athlete' you might start catching up.

Remind me again how many international teams have fielded inferior players to guys like Mbappe, Messi, Ronaldo, Haaland? International players in their respective clubs are the best athlete respective to them being the best in soccer. Many of America’s best young athletes play 3-4 sports at a high level. We have players that could have gone pro (and have) at multiple sports whereas Messi, Mbappe, Ronaldo etc only had soccer as their future. There are the outliers of course (Giannis I believe loved soccer). Also, American athletes are spoiled growing up. The vast majority of kids can’t afford club ball or travel ball and have to resort to other avenues. Those who can, usually come from wealthy or well off families that can pay to travel 3-4 states away every weekend for tournaments. Colleges aren’t looking for kids who aren’t the best. They don’t give scholarships and NIL money to leas than talented players. The best go on and have careers beyond college. That’s how it works. Argentina did’t win the World Cup with 2nd rate players. They had their best. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

We will stink as long as the average American still calls is soccer. Once I am in a bar and everyone wants to watch the football match and the athletes don't have helmets on, then the US men's team will be successful.
