Default Do today's youth have the right to a livable planet?

A new strategy has emerged for addressing climate change - do you support it?

Edit: the litigation in question often seeks to compel national governments to reduce carbon emissions at a faster rate than currently occurring.

Answer in the poll!

It's a cold, cruel world.

When Miami goes underwater, I'll move.

it is amazing the amount of building that goes on in places like Boston, new york, Miami, san fran etc if the threat of global warming and melting of the polar caps were a real and pressing issue. Not only is the building never ending on the waterfront in Boston, they are continually bringing in fill to increase the amount of waterfront to build on.

If the fear was real, I am pretty confident that would not be happening.

ps. they will never get China or India on board with the "green" agenda. those 2 countries are building at an unprecedented rate and are pumping CO2 into the atmosphere like no ones business.

This, for every pound of carbon we stop producing, China produces 20 more.

Is this a reason for the US to not try? I thought America was a beacon of hope for the world. A city upon a hill. If we're exceptional, we have to lead the way. Won't someone think of the children?

I see you've never met a human. They tend to be both stupid and greedy, and absolutely would continue building just as they continue to do all the other things that will bring about their eventual demise.

The reason is this. For the US to make any real dent into the perceived CO2 emission problem would mean for us to fundamentally change everything about how we do business and our society. It would knock us down fiscally and probably to the point where we would not be the world leader anymore. If we are no longer the world leader, we have no pull to make any other country do anything.

look at it this way, can you even imagine the screeching halt our country would come to if we tried to switch over to Battery freight trucks? 70% of all the "stuff" we buy in this country is hauled by a big rig. EV's are roughly 2x the weight of traditional IC vehicles. we do not have the infrastructure to support them. literally. our roads and bridges would not support the physical weight.

We also would need somewhere around 1.5MM new charging stations installed all around the country to support these new trucks. if we started today, that would be 15,000 charging stations per month for almost 8 1/2 years. then we would need to completely revamp our national grid just to deliver that energy, as the lines we have now would melt off the poles under that strain. then we need to generate the additional power. keep in mind that Solar is only about 15-20% active, so think of the 100's of thousands of square miles of solar farms needed to generate that power because we can no longer use NG or Coal fired plants to generate. then we need to figure in that we will need to have a fleet that is around 20% larger because of the more frequent charging requirements and that instead of a 15 minute diesel fill, it will be a 2-21/2 hour charge so there will need to be more trucks on the road to fulfill the freight demands.

this is a HUGE hurdle. and we are only talking about freight trucks here.

China and India are not onboard. With all that the US has donefrom 2010-2022 to drop carbon emissions, the United States now emitts 620 MM metric tons fewer of CO2. in that same time frame, china is now emitting 3 billion metric tons MORE/year. we can destroy our economy and allow china to become the superpower through trying to "fix" CO2 emissions, but unless China (and India) get onboard, it is all folly.
