Default Is this the same card? (BGS 7 vs. raw still in BGS sleeve)

Ran across this '96 Bowman's Best Kobe atomic, still in it's BGS sleeve, but cracked out...

Probstein, ends in 3d 11hr, $805... https://ebay.com/itm/364486756978

To me, it looks like this BGS 7 that sold Aug 8, 2022 for $876 (auction)

-sliver of gold along the left edge
-upper left looks dinged in both pics
-top gold "border" looks the same thickness

'6' surface grade

I would say it is based on the upper left corner

Seller (consignor) not cutting it out of the BGS sleeve, too easy to spot defects if it can be removed from the sleeve.

Probstein not cutting it out, not his job, just list it, sell it, ship it, repeat.

Putting it in a standard sleeve would be the worst thing to do, assuming it was a BGS 7 that is now being sold raw'ish.

One of my all time favorite sets despite discoloration issues.

Def same copy, and def slightly dinged upper left corner.

Are you saying the 6 is either a misgrade/should’ve gone to corners, or just mocking the low subgrade?
If it’s not the latter, I never understood why people think they can fully assess surface condition based on pics. Not possible. Nevermind the fact this has multiple refractor lines and greening. You can only see the lines in the eBay scan.

I guess the BGS sleeve hides the defects even more

why would somebody sit on the card a year just to send it to probstein to sell?

Maybe didn't want somebody digging up the past sale

You leave it in the sleeve in hopes of getting it past CGC. But I assume they will cut it out and inspect the card.

I think the surface grade of 6 is due to the greening, so even if it’s taken out, you won’t see any surface dents or similar issues.

I very much doubt that.

You really never see a surface subgrade that low from greening alone.

Again, you can’t accurately judge surface from pictures. There could easily be scratches on either side of the card.

I’d buy this card all day in a BGS 7 for the discount. It doesn’t even have the commonly crooked bottom edge that plagues this set. And refractor lines on atomics aren’t really as much of an eyesore as they are on standard refractors.

Sold for $1,275 (vs $876 a year ago). Three bidders over 1200. This plan worked for the seller.
