Default NBA / Hobby Mt. Rushmore

My NBA Mt. Rushmore, as rookies. Each of these players indelibly changed the game I love. And each of these cards represented a different milestone for my life in the hobby.

I remember when I got my first Fleer Jordan rookie, it felt like a seat at the “big kid’s table” in the hobby.

When I got my LeBron TC rookie, it was in my (then!) biggest trade of my life.

My Kareem rookie I found raw at a show for (relative) pennies, and graded myself!

The Russell rookie auto I traded one of my favorite Giannis pc items for, but brought in my grail for my favorite non-Buck NBA player in history.

I am very fortunate today to have a number of cards more monetarily valuable than these four, but these guys are my all-time #1-#4 in the NBA, and each card has such a meaningful story to me that I’ll never get rid of them or “upgrade.”

Would love to see and learn about everyone else’s!!!!

Thanks for highlighting that even if these cards are not the most valuable (money-wise) in your collection, they are what you will keep over any others.

We need to bring the fun and passion of collecting back to our hobby.

Great cards.

This is awesome! Do you have a 5th card you would add if you could?

No one changed the game more than Wilt Chamberlain. He was so dominant, the NBA had to change rules to stop him. The 4 guys you picked, no. Now a case could be made for Jordan taking the game global, but Jordan and LeBron wouldn't exist if it weren't for Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. The NBA was in financial trouble and they saved the league. Since they are on the same card, my Mount Rushmore would be

1961 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain
1980 Topps Magic Johnson/Larry Bird/Dr. J
1986 Fleer Michael Jordan
2003 Topps Chrome LeBron James

The court systems also had to implement a child support policy to try and thwart his sexual prowess.

I'd still slot Sekou in over him, imo.

Thanks so much Kyle!!! These are definitely tier 1 of my “pyramid.”

I actually did a project where I collected signature rookie cards for my personal top 25 players of all time. I think the next card might be the 1980 Topps Bird/Magic/Erving, just for sheer efficiency! Personally I also really really love my Jerry West rookie In Action auto—I like to jokingly call it “the original rookie logoman auto”

Undeniable! My Wilt rookie would definitely be up there too!!!!

I have a holy trinity instead:

and 1961 Wilt Chamberlain

If pressed for a fourth it would be between Star 101 Jordan (which I don't own) and 69 Alcindor
