Is it better for the game to continue to set new scoring records every season or would you like to see a bit more defense—especially in the regular season?

The issue isn't in the paint. The issue is analytics pushing the number of 3-pt attempts/game.

Zach Lowe's idea from a recent pod was to increase it to a Defensive 5 second rule, and then actually enforce it. Making it 5 seconds seems like a good compromise so you don't have people camping in the lane infinitely, but also gives them a bit more leeway.

Getting rid of illegal defense will absolutely bring scoring efficiency down. To say it's just because teams are shooting so many 3s is too simplistic.
Offenses are so efficient because of the floor spacing. Getting rid of illegal defense would change the spacing dynamics dramatically
