Default MLB keeping relevant with the youth of today...

...by teaming up with the Rolling Stones for team-branded vinyl releases of the band's upcoming record.

The aged get aged..er

No word yet whether they'll try to team up with Dick Van Dyke.

MLB's usage of octogenarians in attempts to grow the sport is absolutely baffling.

They need Mike Trout to start dating Taylor Swift.

Were you hoping for BTS? I see this as mostly harmless. While this won’t bring in young new fans, I don’t think was the goal.

Clearly MLB knows their true target audience.

Not everything has to be about the kids, and I doubt having a modern artist drop an album this week would make any difference in the ratings anyway.

At some point you have to expand that audience or it dies off and there is no audience at all.

Of course, I'm just saying not EVERYTHING has to be geared towards kids. They are allowed to do things for old people too.

But The Rolling Stones are cool again. I see kids all the time wearing vintage Stones t-shirts…granted they’ve probably never even heard a Stones song but still. They like vinyl too.

Is this what it looks like when a zoomer yells at the clouds?

It's a fine line they have to walk. To much towards kids turns off the older demographic that has the income to attend games, to little towards kids and they never care about the game and you have no future fan base.

For perspective the first album I paid my own money for was their big “comeback” album Tattoo You in 81 or 82. I was 9 and am 50 now. I earned the money hustling older kids at 8-ball at the Buena Park Boys club on Knott just south of the 91 fwy.
I wish they would’ve retired when Charlie kicked but I’m sure it’s keeping Mick, Keith and Ronnie alive at this point. I’ll say it again:
I’m just worried about what kind of world we’re going to leave for Keith Richards.
The 4 album stretch from Beggars Banquet through Exile on Main St remains one one the best ever but it ended 7 months before I was born ffs
Seems like this is the rare instance of MLB knowing their target audience

The time to worry about kids was 20-30 years ago. I think that ship has sailed. Kids don't even really watch sports anymore. Ones interested in sports are watching tik tok and youtube highlights. Just keep churning out bat flip highlight reels because that is the only hope for baseball

This is gonna sound troll but there is a decent chunk of 20- and 30-somethings that find bingo to be a fun, cheap, harmless couples activity.

Absolutely. I think I won ~$50 playing at a firehouse bar in rural PA. Beers were inexpensive and the food was good.

Sure they're a crappy band that no one under 40 cares about, but who cares?

Whelp, it was a good 150ish year run for baseball. But I guess now it’s over. When the league folds in a few years due to no fans, they’ll say, “How did this happen?!” and we’ll say, “It all started with that Rolling Stones promotion…”

I know this is hard for some people to believe, but just because little kids aren’t as frenzied about baseball as they are about Pokémon right now doesn’t mean new fans won’t emerge. They always do.

Todays Utes only know The Rolling Stones thanks to Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera. Maybe that’s connection enough?

True. I gave my 4 year old a stack of 6 cards I got as filler the other day and he's kinda into it right now. He asked me about each guy, 1st was Nolan Ryan and I waxed on about country strong, tough old dudes, etc..then he got to a panini card of Wander Franco......."look I think there's an M&M under the couch!" was all I could muster
gotta be dads bringing the sons along to last

You’re a good Dad. I’m sure one day you’ll even have your kids listen to a Rolling Stones song or two. I’m 41 and I know of them, I’m familiar with their music. While I was into baseball at a very young age, for some it’s a sport you grow into. Nostalgia, baby. It’s a hellava drug.
