Wink Keep it classy Uruguay...

...After a 1 goal loss to Colombia, Uruguay players have entered the stands and a fight has broken out between fans and players: VIDEO

Reminds me of this.

Yeah, I don't think Pistons fans were messing with Ron's or Jermaine's family.

I'm still waiting to hear someone come out and say what happened, it was surreal watching it live.

Exclamation Update

Supposedly drunk Colombia fans ‘avalanched’ the families of the Uruguayan players which is when Darwin & other players went up to the stands to fight them.

Video of Darwin Núñez consoling his son after the altercation that took place at full time v Colombia.

You think it’s the first time they’ve heard opposing fans yell at them? Clearly this was something else, which by all reports involved aggressive behavior toward the players’ families. Security wasn’t doing the job so put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself if you’d do the same thing to protect your family.

Players going into the stands isn't all that rare.

Meh

We have all seen altercations with players and fans. This is nothing new.

I can remember hearing of when Rocky Colavito and the Tigers were playing the Yankees in NY and a fan was scuffling with Rocky’s elderly father. Rocky went into the stands followed by multiple Tigers.

If you look up the 61 season that Colavito & the Tigers had, I can see why a Yankee fan would want him being thrown out of the game.

Why did I have a feeling the Blowout crowd specifically would find a way to defend this, the same ones that probably chastised the "classless" Pacers at the time lol

Shout out to OP for making the comparison, thought the same thing.

Clearly response won't be the same though, he may carry the torch at the Olympics for this lol

The players were defending their family members, which included a number of babies and small children.

I'm sure you'd just stand by while a wave of drunken Columbian football hooligans descended upon your family, right?

Yep huge difference from the pacers thing. Its seems some of the Columbia fans were legitimately being aggressive toward the team families section. I would have done the same thing. Security protocols should be reviewed as apparently it went on for a long time without being resolved.

Just hear Josema Gimenez interview after the game. Whether they are right or wrong, they heard fans were throwing things at their wives/kids (and apparently Ugarte's mom too) and they stepped up thinking they were in danger.

Nothing like the Malice at the Palace. I think Darwin/Araujo/Gimenez and some more will get suspended but I'll be shocked if their federation is not behind them.

Have you seen images of Darwin from the aftermath? He's in tears and can't let go of his kid. His mother also passed out / was unconscious.

But yeah, only on BO would you find people justifying this.

Worst take of the year goes to 'ThatGuyPal' and it's only July.

My question for CONMEBOL is why the players' families are in the stands instead of in private boxes?

Not surprising. Violent people love hiding behind religion and religions create violent people.

Private boxes are for people that don't like football, but like being seen and pretending they do.

These things with the families rarely happen, specially because there are young kids around. Boxes are normally for club presidents and such in South America.

I won't be shocked if it changes from now on though.

Daft. I had a good friend at the game up in a box. Huge football fan. Also works hard and is fairly wealthy. He said the fan issues were brewing from very early on when some Columbia fans booed the Uruguay national anthem, and there was at least one pretty big fight early on. I would’ve been right up there with him if I could afford it!

Columbian fans disgrace themselves again. Storming the stadium, smashing the stadium up, ripping off the roof so they could crawl through airvents to get inside

.. but yeah, those evil Uruguay players protecting their children and babies, eh ThatguyPal?

Nice. Columbian Soccer president gets into it with security after they lose. Typical

My coworker is from Columbia and he is constantly telling me how bad his own fans are and how he is so embarassed.
I think only Mexican fans are worse with their homphobic chanting.
