Default PWCC Free Vault Submissions

I just got an email promo from them saying they are offering 3 free vault submissions this month (no limit on number of cards being submitted, but all cards must be graded).

Isn't that almost like them giving you free insurance in exchange for them holding your stuff in their vault?

I'm not their biggest fan, but just wanted to make sure I'm reading this right.

Free forever? Don't they charge a monthly fee or something?

According to them, free forever. No monthly charge. No fulfillment charge if you sell through them (otherwise 0.25%) and I'm sure they'll charge you shipping if you ever want your cards back.

In a nutshell, what are the advantages of their vault?

I send my bigger Ebay purchases there but don't see any way to use it for that because I don't know where you'd put the promo code

That’s nice of them not to charge you to let some jabroni slap your slabs around in their warehouse of bakers racks.

Since they're in Oregon, I've used their vault for bigger ebay purchases to save on sales tax.

They also appraise and insure whatever you have in the vault.

You can also buy/sell/trade your items in the vault so I could send you my card directly from them.

We can debate the merits of the Vault forever (and it's already happened in multiple threads)

If you use the Vault? This is a freaking steal. I'd be sending everything in that I hadn't already.

Got it, good to know!

Thanks!

Well they charge a small vault handling/submission fee [unless it's already a PWCC item]. And this sounds like they waive that? The insurance is charged per month, but is also pretty cheap.

Like others have mentioned, I use this for higher-priced items, to save on tax. Also, if it's a pwcc item already, no shipping and no submission charge, so you can really save a bit.

You won't get charged for the ingestion fee or insurance ever if you use this code. If you withdraw your items without selling on their platform, you will pay a 0.25% fee. If you sell on their platform, they will charge you their normal rates.

They are obviously trying to get more and more people to use it in order to make more money off of consignment fees. Part of me wonders if they are trying to get ahead of other companies trying to create their own vaults. PWCC has the tax advantages though, because of their location in Oregon.

I was thinking about this in relation to the NFT/blockchain craze. If PWCC held the largest collection, it seems that they'd be in the best position to create a blockchain-based bid/ask trading platform that bypasses eBay entirely. People would just trade tokens (redeemable for the physical card) back and forth, and a small transaction fee would go to PWCC for each trade. While each token could be redeemed for the actual card, most would probably just stay in the vault to be more liquid.

They could do that without any freebies, but it's probably easier to start such a marketplace with more existing vault members and cards already in-house. Maybe that's their plan...maybe it's an interesting concept...maybe it's a very flawed idea I haven't thought through entirely...

I just sent 49 of my graded cards to the vault valued between $50k-$60k. Some of them I will sell, but a lot of them I will use strictly for the vault service. I'm in the military and it's very stressful changing stations or moving overseas and having to figure out how to safely move my cards. Being able to leave them in one place is a huge relief. I pulled a few cards out of my safe deposit box due to this promo. I have far more control in the vault than in a safe deposit box and can sell quickly if need be. The free promo is what swayed me to send.

What method did you use to send the cards to them?

No doubt about it. People can look back at my responses to PWCC during their 2018-19 scandal - I was no fan. However, if you've been in this hobby for more than 2 seconds, you know shady business practices are more common than not - especially in the high-end world. I just think they are in the best position to create a real marketplace for the hobby. And while Goldin may have most of the highest of high-end sales, they are, logistically speaking, miles behind where PWCC is.

When I saw how much it would be to add my collection to my homeowner's insurance, it was a no-brainer. I'm flying out there the third week of March to hand deliver my collection.

There's a field for that at the bottom of the online submission form.

Clarification Question on the 3 Free vault subs? Is it free for 3 Actual cards or if you submit 20 cards, all 20 cards are Free?

1 submission could be 1,000 cards. Some people don't have all their cards in their possession at one moment in time, so they are allowing 3 waves to come at them. Plus, FedEx caps insurance at $800k, so you're spreading your risk by sending in 3 different submissions.

Thanks for the quick response! Wow, you can literally send an entire collection to PWCC with that offer.

Damn they must have recently updated this. I sent 3 cards in when I first saw this 2 weeks ago. I guess I’ll have to suck it up and pay another shipping charge to send more. The website now says ‘Unlimited amount of cards’

I use it for some of my high end stuff I don't want to keep in my house or my deposit box. They even provided me a fully insured shipping label to send my stuff in. I dig it.

I think this is the key here and why I won't plan to use this offer.

I have to imagine PWCC is concerned about the increasing amount of ultra-high end modern being sent to Goldin. This is a worthwhile move to protect market share.

The biggest drawback of the Vault is the biggest reason I am choosing to use it - not having your cards with you. It's going to be a real bummer to go to card shows with no cards, however, it pales in comparison to shelling out $4k/year in insurance.

Just for perspective, 0.25% is $75 on a $30k card. Well worth it, IMO.

Yeah I think I’ll have to take advantage of this. Will suck not having the high-end stuff around to look at, but seems like a great deal and if I want to sell anything, makes it easy to just hit a button and tell them to sell it, without the stress of packaging / shipping.

Do they still require things to be slabbed, or will they accept ungraded? (Panini redemption one touches for example)

Totally agree.

I bought a PSA 8 Jordan a few months ago from PWCC and elected to open up a Vault account to store it. The February fee was about $8... Nothing crazy.

Once I saw the free forever I quickly gathered up 4 of my best cards and shipped them to the Vault. Cards I don't feel comfortable holding in my house anymore because of the current value.

Im sending one more stack soon. I've picked up some Jadon Sancho cards and it will be easier letting PWCC sell and ship if someone overseas is interested in them.

Free insurance....
