Did someone really cut up a flag to make relic cards or is the flag just the background for a piece of a document?

It's a wooden piece so it may be part of the pole.

In 2011 0r 2012 Upper Deck cut up a Civil War Union Battle Flag. To be honest it was in poor shape with the stripes gone and every time it was handled it would disintegrated more. What should they have done with it, Burn it, put it in a box on a shelf until it turned to dust or do what they did. Not a historical document but I have a card with a small piece of straw from the scarecrow and a piece of hair from the lion from the Wizard of OZ. Should a small piece of history be kept in a room only to be seen every few years ?

I'm always apprehensive about the dirt-types of relics. There are some cool Goodwin Champions from 2022 that have Egyptian "relic" sand cards. But who's to say they just didn't get it from the beach in Florida.

I have no problem with relic cards. Except for hair cards. I find those a little creepy. But costume cards, pieces of documents, pieces of props, pieces of historical bits and bobs. That's fine. I guess I just don't like the idea of a flag being cut up for a trading card.
