Default One for the player collectors. My Darrell Armstrong top 30 :)

So I realize not a lot of people know of Darrell "Flash" Armstrong. Casual NBA fans may have heard the name, bigger fans probably know him from the year he won the 6th Man of the Year and Most Improved Player (first player to ever achieve both honors in the same year). But in Orlando he remains one of the most popular players in our franchise's history. A true underdog story. The passion he played with will forever be remembered here. He's my all time favorite and about 15 years ago I decided I was going to build the ultimate Armstrong PC. It will forever be a work in progress, but here's my top 30 so far. I hope you all enjoy this

Luckily Darrell peaked during a great time period for basketball cards and is therefore featured in some of the most iconic releases from the mid 90's through the early 2000s. The original Skybox Ruby parallel may not be as flashy as later releases, but at 1per box it falls under the "rare" category for the time period. And it just so happens to be Darrell's Rookie to boot
#30: 96/97 Skybox Premium Ruby parallel.

Thanks for the comments guys. And I never even thought about putting a list together for people going to the National....great idea. I'll absolutely include one at the end

#29. 99/00 Upper Deck Ovation signatures.

Like I said earlier, Darrell peaked at a good time as far as being included in certain releases and insert sets is concerned and these Ovation Signatures are, in my opinion, one of the cleanest auto sets out there. Nice action shots on top of the close up and a generous amount of space for all on card autos. Not rare at all, but it makes me happy whenever I look at it. I was very excited when Panini started to include him in some of their newer releases and maybe we'll get to one of those in about a week

I agree that Ovation auto is very classy looking, and having it come from his peak season makes it even more special. This will be a lot of fun to follow, thanks for sharing!

One of my favourite auto sets.

I remember watching Armstrong - he was all energy all the time. I read he had 3 or 4 cups of coffee before each game!

Darell Armstrong was like a better Patrick Beverley with hops from my memory of him. I'll be following, and nice gold!

Patrick Beverley w/o the drama (not a dig on Beverly as his intense style of play causes it), and the hops were real.......just don't YouTube his dunk contest performance

#27 97/98 Topps O-Pee-Chee Parallel

This one took me a while to find. I base a lot of my favorites on look and rarity but this one just the sheer satisfaction of actually finding it because it's not much to look at. All my research of these cards tells me they were released only in Canadian packs (not sure if it was hobby, retail or both) at a rate of 1 in 3 packs. I got lucky when a seller was selling off his entire O-pee-chee
parallel set card by card on Ebay.

#26. 97/98-98/99-99/00 Topps Stadium Club One of a Kind parallels.

I wasn't sure if this was cheating or not but these 3 are basically the exact same card so screw it I enjoy these parallels. Nothing flashy, no refracting but still nice to look at with the shiny finish. Now obviously I'm not a professional photographer, but I don't think these are very photogenic no matter what. The collector on here who takes those amazing photos of his Kemp cards could probably nail it, but I just go at them w/ my Galaxy S10+ and a flashlight. I promise this countdown will get more exciting but I hope you all are enjoying it so far

Very very nice stuff so far. I agree on a lot of your thoughts. Those first year rubies are criminally underrated. I'd never even seen that Ovation auto set before but it's very very good looking. And the O Pee Chees aren't even that easy to find in Canada from what I understand- even tougher stateside, took me years to track down a Mitch. Only got it because a Canadian member on the boards pulled it and was kind enough to send it to me gratis.

Great stuff man I'm tuned to this thread for sure!

Back from our 4th of July in Chicago and back on with the countdown

#25 99/00 UD Ovation Standing Ovation/50.

I acquired this card about 10 years ago. I've always liked Ovation with the embossed Basketball pattern on the base cards. Add some shiny colors, # them to 50 and you have a pretty sweet parallel.

Those standing ovations are tough to track down indeed. I didn't acquire my Mitch Richmond until last year- and it was only the 2nd I can recall seeing in the past 6 years, one on ebay and one at COMC.
