Default Question about a card with a hole-punch out of it

Have any of you seen a card from this era (late 90's early 2000's) with what looks like a hole-punch taken out of it? Or is this just a weird defect that can happen?

$200 for what the seller is describing it as a card that a classroom of 1st graders was able to sort through. Surface damage should be the first hint that the card wasn’t produced like that. It’s not a production error.

I guess I was thinking that I had seen cards with something similar that were stamped out like that when produced as a way to keep them from being packed out or something of that sort. Obviously the surface damage like that isn't part of the manufacturing process

There were cards in the 90's given out as promotional samples from Pinnacle that had a corner snipped off.

Looks like that card was damaged by getting caught in the prongs of a binder.

There are some punches that were done for redemption cards to show that they had been used already, but I don't know if Topps ever did it.

Example: Score Gold with Pinnacle logo punch

Topps never had hole punched cards. Redemptions were never returned.

Someone went to town on this card. My guess? Probably owned by a kid who didnt know what they had. Or a kid got into dad's collection. Long shot that it was from a 1/1 custom card designer (popular in the mid 00s)that started going to town on it, then realized the serial number and stopped.

Either way, not created by the manufacturer in any way shape or form. PSA 1 best case. $20 card to placemark a hole in ones collection.
