Default What will be the most iconic rookie card of the 2010's?

Curious what others think. 80's was the Jordan Fleer, 90's the Kobe Refractor, and 2000's the Lebron Exquisite RPA. May be too soon to know the player, but what set? Prizm silver, NT rpa, something else? Even though it's not rare I think it will be Luka's Prizm Silver (I do not own one).

Somethin' like a cross between Teddy Aguhob and Kaboom Mystery Packs. I got that Givenchy denim flow.

90s was the Kobe Base Chrome. Not the parallel, sorry.

2010s probably Giannis Prizm Base. Perhaps Luka or Jokic depending on how each does in the near future.

I kinda think the 2009-10 Topps Steph Curry rookie is the iconic card of the decade.

I think it's the Luka Prizm by far.

I think Curry's stuff counts as 2009 - blame PSA labeling I guess but yeah.

So we've got Giannis Prizm and autos/parallels, or NT.

For Jokic I really like the Select /199 Auto since it has so few parallels [or copies of any issue] and he has no Prizm auto and no Optic yet. His Flawless autos are nice too.

For Luka/Trae, with the addition of Optic holo autos, those are so tough to ignore. Love the base Optic autos too just because they feel like the next evolution from 96 Chrome, to Prizm [sticker autos]. And aesthetically they're just gorgeous [I don't own any btw].

Depending on how their careers go, it'll likely be one of these 4 guys.

2012 Kawhi Leonard Prizm

Iconic set and he has more rings than any other 2010s rookie

Good call, I probably should've included this one too, or at least the entire '12 Prizm silver set. {I love the '12 Select silvers too].

Kawhi is an interesting case re: legacy because of how few regular season accolades he's going to rack up. Hard to say right now... if he somehow adds another ring, I think that'd go a long way.

Giannis Prizm/Prizm Silver would be my guess.

Luka and Zion Prizms will go down as the cards that the most people lost money on. Puts kind of a stain on them.

Hard to say, but looks like Giannis Base Prizm / Silver Prizm. Luka Courtside is a beautiful card, just not sure he's going to have the career of Giannis.

If Giannis is 1, is Luke a lock at 2?

I think Ja's silver prizm could be interesting as well, he's a true star

Probably a NT card but i could see it changing to Flawless down the road. Prizm would be comparable to like Topps Chrome, more widely accessible.

Lol.

Good to see the bias is strong still.

I don't remember the Giannis or Kawhi Prizm causing much of a stir for a loooooong time.

Luka stuff went nuts after a season. That card will be iconic.

So will the Giannis. But 18/19 saw a flood of people back to the Hobby.

People have lost money on every Rookie early on. Not sure what that has to do with anything a decade or 2 from now when these cards will be iconic.

Default What will be the most iconic rookie card of the 2010's?

The examples you give OP from previous decades each had a unique angle and innovation going for them.

Lebron - first ultra high-end RPA
Kobe - the beginning of Topps Chrome

And Jordan, well he’s got the advantage of being the greatest player of all time.

Feels like you can’t really point to a similar advantage for any one card from the 10s. Prizm and National Treasures are the first candidates to look to but at their core both are kinda just doing what Exquisite and Topps Chrome did first. And doesn’t seem like anybody from this past decade is going to surpass Jordan or LeBron, but who knows. Luka is obviously awesome but the mania around his rookie kind of reminds me of the craze around like Shaq rookies in the early 90s.

Giannis rookie maaaaybe gets my vote, but only because I like him so much as a player. The card itself isn’t super special.

I would go with a 2013 Giannis right now with a chance for Doncic and Zion depending on what they accomplish after Giannis is done.

I think with Zion if he becomes the guy, the iconic card would be his One and One possibly.

Although iconic cards generally need to be somewhat attainable. Being /99 will be tricky down the line.

I wasn't joking about the rr.

it has been a classic mainstream rookie type since the days of Bonds, McGwire, Alomar, and Clark. I think '88 Donruss was the most classic and hard to gem.

To me it has more staying power than NT, which doesn't quite get what UD effortlessly mastered. And I haven't really liked a Panini chromium card past 17-18, until flux. Which reminds me the green Prizm Tatum rookie may be the best design, if not the most iconic.

The Flawless RPA of whoever ends up being the best player of the decade. Lower numbered than NT and actually rookie year game worn. Those will get their due respect in the long run.

If Jordan had a rookie year RPA that was #/25 and game worn, and another that was Walmart rack jersey and #/99, which one would be selling for more today?
