Was lucky enough to pull a Kobe redemption the week after his passing. FOTL auto /11 from Crown Royale. Would have loved to have that card, but these packs look pretty cool. #RIPMAMBA

How funny, I was just thinking how Mosaic needed a few extra parallels to really put it over the top.

I would not be happy personally if I was having my Kobe auto replaced with one of these packs, although I'm sure these parallels will go for big bucks since only top players are included. And only giving 50% beckett value in REWARDS POINTS for expired redemptions is poo poo, although I have no idea what the typical process is with expired redemptions.

I guess I'm curious how they handle parallels of redemptions. For example, does someone with a base autograph redemption get the same number of packs as someone with a /25 autograph redemption? What about the 1/1?

That’s what I was wondering. Not all Kobe’s are alike so are some people getting more than one pack? As noted above, the Kobe /11 wouldn’t be worth the same as a sticker auto from a lesser product like regular Donruss. If every unfulfilled redemption gets the same amount of packs, that’s a really bad way to handle this.

Those are my thoughts as well. A Kobe Auto replaced by a made up parallel set? No Autographs? Weak on Panini's part, even given a tough situation (that they took an extraordinary amount of time to figure out)

It’s a tough situation whether you get the right auto, a replacement or the packs. I think I would have preferred to see everyone not getting an auto getting a guaranteed low-numbered card of Kobe plus a pack or two or whatever. Or do what Fleer did—make up some special redemption replacement autos so everyone gets a decent auto at a minimum

I have a prizm 2018-19 auto redemption and I don't think he ever came around to signing those so I will more than likely be getting a pack.

I don't have a Kobe redemption.

But if do and they aren't able to fulfill it, Panini should let you pick 2-3 players from the list of Panini Exclusives and they'll give you an item from each player (maybe a card, maybe memorabilia) in addition to giving packs.

How hard is that?

Everyone knows what happened was terrible and out of Panini's control. But c'mon. Make a better effort to do right by your customers.

There is nowhere where it says that only top players are included. If Jaxson Hayes is pictured I'd believe that every rookie is likely in the set. If every rookie is in the set than it is likely that most NBA players will likely be in the set. I'd assume this is the Mosaic checklist. Is your Kobe auto worth a Clint Capela and Jaxson Hayes Mosaic?

I don't know that that is true. From Panini's blog post:

Why are people so angry about this? What do you want Panini to do, bring Kobe back from the dead and have him sign the outstanding redemptions? If they gave you another auto instead, how many players signing with Panini have autos that are comparable at all in value? Yes it sucks that they don’t have your Kobe auto, but unfortunately that’s life (and death) and at least they’re doing something about this. If you don’t want the pack, just flip it. There won’t be many of these and they will sell for big bucks.

I think that's the rub. I have an optic /49 redemption unfulfilled. Does one of these packs clear the $1000 the card is worth? I mean i kinda expected this. But at the same time i can be irritated that they had two years before his death to get me the card and didn't do it.

Yeah, but it’s worth $1k because of his death. So it’s tough to gauge true value as all of his stuff’s value has increased since he passed

I had a Prizm Kobe in my old account that of course I have no access to now. It disappeared. Maybe fix that first so people can get that cleared up first. I have a Kobe redemption that will be sold instead of dealing with panini.

That’s the true point. Those holding older Kobe redemptions it’s a tough pill to swallow. At the same time, if the tragedy didn’t happen and Panini offered this as a trade off for Kobe autos, people would be thrilled.

Panini didn’t have to do anything but offer points though, so from that perspective this is about as big of a win as you could hope for.

Fair. But his numbered stuff was climbing before that in anticipation of his HOF induction. Again I expected it. But understand why people would be frustrated. I guess now i have to decide between opening or selling.

Agreed. Just feels lackluster. I mean they chose Mosaic for the special set. Not Prizm or Flawless or something more special.

If that is the case, I wouldn't just be unhappy if I had a Kobe unfilfilled redemptiln auto, I would be livid. It's one thing to have a chronicles-esque checklist and another thing to replace your potential kobe auto with the Bembrys of the world.

Though if I had to guess, I would bet you are right and thats what will happen
