Default Resale question on ebay authenticated slabs

Apologies if this is more appropriate for the Grading Forum.

What are our thoughts on leaving a slab in the eBay Authenticated sleeve vs taking it out? Are there premiums or benefits amongst people who are buying it online or in-person? Overall, I would think it matters little but I can see a scenario where someone would appreciate the extra layer of security attached to a card, particularly if the slab is high value.

Means nothing. It’s easier to make a fake eBay authentication sticker than a fake slab.

And it’s easy to make a fake slab.

Ive used them for just sleeves for a few things and the times I've taken them out the seal doesn't even break or degrade so I'd also agree nothing. Takes no effort to open and reseal.

I can vouch for this.

Not very "secure". Maybe 1 out of 5 will leave part of the security sticker behind when peeled, but usually they peel off with no damage. I open these using a letter opener under the full flap and soon found out these peel up easily that way, since the flap on the sleeve can be used to start the sticker peeling. If you pick at the corners of the sticker, it would definitely look tampered I think. I never leave them in these sleeves for my own collection, or sell them with photos in the sleeves...I don't think that would help the sale.

For raw cards, the QR code will identify when the card was authenticated, so that can help potential buyers narrow down when it was sold and then finding the previous sale price is pretty easy....as long as the image is still there in the ebay terapeak research tool. For raw cards that don't sell often, you might not even need the image to know which listing it was, based on sale date --> authentication date.

For graded cards, you can see the cert number usually, and match them up even without the authentication date...but that date would narrow down the search window, and could confirm which sale it was if sold multiple times.

For vintage / lower grade cards, graded or raw, the stickers on the sleeve could obstruct the card and you might miss seeing some damage. If it's a recent cert, look it up at PSA for the scans and don't trust seller images alone.

Here's an extreme example. This is graded as 'TRADING CARD', so the card is not graded. If you wanted to confirm the condition of the card, you can't tell if there's writing or stains or paper loss on the back where the stickers have covered it up... https://ebay.com/itm/235432366586 (not saying there's any damage there...I just can't see it for myself to know for sure)

For someone that only collects slabs… I couldn’t care less

I take all mine out of the sleeve as soon as I get it

This is probably accurate

It can’t hurt

It won’t help… but maybe to hit that 1 out of 100 buyer where it does help. They are out there

If you as the seller don’t care? Might as well leave it
