That is a tough break. Hope they catch the criminals here since there are cameras everywhere.

Dealer 101. Don't give a guy 90k in cards without um , getting the money first??

Sounds like a mark unfortunately.

Can’t believe he let the guy leave the booth with the cards to take to his son. But honestly the guy that stole the cards is dumb for doing it to someone that has his cell phone number. Sounds like an arrest should come easily.

Sounds like both parties were idiots. The guy for letting him take the cards without checking he had the cash and the guy who stole them as he was known to the guy. If the police decide he did steal them they will just put a warrant out for his arrest.

Police contacted him and he declined to be interviewed. Well no kidding. It's cause he is a thief. Dude just needs to go to the commissioners office and take charges out.

After reading who was involved. I am thinking we are not hearing the entire story.

That sounds juicy! Please share.

The story is suspicious. How can you be that stupid?

I can't believe he said it isn't my job to make sure the bag has money in it. Actually it is if you want to get paid dummy.

As a dealer, I can say that MANY deals take place without cash being exchanged up front. The dealer community is pretty loyal to one another. If you are a known customer, and a large spender, you'll get the benefit of walking away from a table without paying. Six figure deals routinely get settled up months later. It's just the way the business works. I can't remember the last time I actually paid for wax up front. My suppliers just ship me whatever I want and trust I'll pay them later.

My understanding is that the customer was well-known (local here in the Cleveland area), and had a track record of paying without issue. Every now and again, someone turns heel and breaks code. This will surely be resolved either through an arrest, lawsuit, or the cards being returned, and this guy will be blacklisted. But it's not as stupid as you think in terms of dealers not taking payment up front. That's just the way the business works.

You have to love this paragraph in the story:

"Giddings, who provided witnesses who saw the incident, said detectives contacted the alleged suspect, who lives in Ohio, and requested that he return to Atlantic City to be interviewed, but he declined".

Sure. His side is he paid for the cards.

"We hadn’t cut a deal yet, so he said, ‘Do you mind if I give them to my son,’ who was about three booths away.”

Sportscard Rule #1: Until we have a deal (and in my mind that includes PAYING me), those cards belong to ME and are not leaving MY booth.

You breaks the rules, you pays the price. In this case, the price is $87,800.

So the dealer thought he was getting $100k in cash for $80k worth of cards?
And didn’t bother counting the cash and just handed the cards over? This doesn’t make sense.

One guy has cash, the other has cards. They swapped items.

Willing to bet that cops will say it’s a civil matter and it’s going to civil court.

Enough plausible deniability here to claim they made a deal and one has seller remorse.

I am going with very suspect story. Unless this was poorly written or poorly edited, there are some huge holes in the story. I don't know the seller but he is not looking very credible in this article.

All just sounds too improbable and mix that with "...1956 Topps Mickey Mantle card valued at $20,000; a 1955 Roberto Clemente rookie card valued at $16,000; a 1955 Sandy Koufax rookie card valued at $10,000..." Who put values on those ungraded cards?

I haven't dealt with Gizmo in probably 13+ years, but I never was a fan of his back then.

Anybody party with Frank Gore at the show?

NEW JERSEY - Former pro football star Frank Gore is accused of assaulting a woman in a "domestic violence incident" at a hotel in Atlantic City, authorities said.
Citing court documents, TMZ reported that Gore dragged a naked woman by her hair across a hallway on the 59th floor of the Tropicana Casino's Havana Tower on July 31.

Officers responded to the hotel at 8:11 a.m. to investigate a "report of a domestic violence dispute," Atlantic City police said in a release. Cops arrived to find a 28-year-old woman from Miami, Florida, speaking with hotel security, police said.

He said, He said....

How the dealer prove he didn't pay for the cards?
How can the "Theif" prove that he did?

Is this rhetorical? I mean technically anyone can swipe a card from a table at a show, or swipe a card or even a box of cards from an LCS and claim that they simply paid cash. In the absence of security cameras aren't all situations like this he said, he said? If someone puts a gun to your head and takes the cash out of your wallet, can you "prove" they robbed you without camera footage? What if the guy says "I didn't rob him". It will always be your word against theirs. This is what the police and detectives are there for I guess.
