Default Giannis Regret Thread

Was scrolling thru my Photobucket and these were in my sold folder. No doubt I sold them for thousands less than today’s value.

I feel you. I sold a Prizm silver RC and a Next Day Auto long ago. I’m glad I held a couple cards, but, man, I feel you.

Nope. Not going to do it.

I've "lost" my entire house cost in LeBron/Trout/Giannis that I sold too early

Not worth the pain.

Something is wrong with the “hobby” when guys like us could have a private island by now, while 18 year old punks are scoffing at $24k offers for a Silver Prizm that they have zero of their own money invested in.

(Sorry to call my son a punk)

Passed on PSA 10 Select base @ $130-$150 last fall.

Didn’t bid aggressively enough on PSA 10 Prizm Green under $1500 last fall.

Passed on PSA 8 Next Day @ $1200 in winter 2018.

I'll be the brave soul to go this path. Here goes nothing:

Crusade Auto BGS 9.5 - $45
Pinnacle Base - $2
Signatures Base Auto /199 - $50
Signatures Base Auto /199 BGS 9.5 - $55
Totally Certified Blue Jersey - $10
Totally Certified Red Jersey - $7.25
Crusade Base Gold /10 - $26
Crusade Purple /60 - $25
Titanium Jersey /325 - $15.75
Titanium Jersey /325 - $16.75

The ones that really hurt:

Gold Standard Auto BGS 9.5 - $130
Prizm Green PSA 9 - $15
Prizm Light Blue /199 BGS 9 - $15
Prizm RWB, Red and Blue (all BGS 9.5) - $200 for the 3

I know some of you have lost more but that's over 10% of what my collection is worth AND I was PC'ing Giannis so it really sucks lol

I JUST had a Giannis regret a couple weeks ago. Sold my PSA 10 Prizm (needed some extra cash to do stuff for the house) for 2 Grand and now see they are up to 2800+ LOL...I never sell at the right time

This might hurt a bit, but you should do the updated pricing for those. I honestly have no idea and can check myself, but I figure you'd have a better idea

Those are the prices I sold/traded those cards for at the time. I know they are worth waaaaay more now, I still have my Giannis PC and I check prices from time to time.

I had 2 that just came back from PSA last week...…..they came back 9's (and both should have been 10's)……..

That's what I get for submitting them "economy"...……...

Off the top of my head

2013-14 Select Silver $125
2013-14 Select Auto $70
2013-14 Select Auto $50
2013-14 SP Authentic Canvas Auto $70
2013-14 Panini Sugnatures /199 $175
2013-14 Hoops $8
2013-14 Retro x10 $60
2013-14 Prizm $10
2014-15 Prizm x4 $6
2014-15 Prizm Blue /99 $8
2014-15 Prizm Silver $175
2015-16 Prizm Silver $90
2013-14 Retro Metal $8
2013-14 Certified $8

Made a profit on all of them though. Only one that really stings is the SP Authentic since that was a pack pulled card.

The only Giannis hurt I have is from getting into group breaks in 2013. I ended up with the Sixers in like 20 + cases of Prizm. Thought I hit the lottery with MCW that year. I think I have like 50+ MCW prizm rookies as well is Noel. Imagine it was the bucks I ended up in those cases. I could have been sitting on a gold mine.

I've lost probably hundreds of thousands on just 6 cards off the top of my head. A Mike Trout Blue bowman chrome refractor auto BGS 9.5 that i sold for $1k. And 5 Brady Contender rookie ticket autos that i sold way too early. I know the pain.

Just remember though you likely sold a bunch of cards of guys that busted out. It is why I won’t feel bad for selling any Jasson Dominguez stuff I have even if he becomes a star.

Next question for the guys that sold way to early:

Why did you sell and what did you do with the profits? How does that influence how you feel about when you sold?

- I thought he had peaked from a hobby perspective. If I recall correctly, I sold when he was about to make his 2nd All-Star game.

- I don't remember what I bought, I remember I put it back into the hobby.

- I don't think it would have made any difference. I rarely buy anything expensive so if I wanted a card, I would have just bought it and kept the Giannis(es?).

This one hurts. I sold a 2013 Prizm Red BGS 9.5 for $660 in August 2018... sold for $7,000 last week.

Sold because frankly, I wasn't really into cards. I was big into them back in 2011-2015, but left the hobby for a while. Found the card, realized what it was worth, and figured it was better to have that money for everyday life instead of a hobby I had left. So I graded it and let it go.

Honestly sold bc i always wanted to sell so i could pick up a PSA or BGS 9 and possibly something else for the PC since in all honesty im not super big on grading. I dont even remember the reason i bought a 10 in the first place but I remember paying $50 for it. Used that money to help with new windows for the house..felt it was the quickest way to get a nice return..just didnt think about another jump coming

The only saving grace is getting in so low that I still made a lot of money on the card...just could've been more lol

I sold and just bought other items.

So I've definitely still "made money"

Example... I traded a LeBron SPA BGS 9.5/10 (so maybe $20,000 now? I honestly haven't looked) for a LeBron Chrome PSA 10 (was like $750 at the time), Jordan Fleer PSA 6 (that I then sold or traded... can't remember... was also like $750 at the time), and like $1,500

As the SPA at the time was like $2,500... and I probably only had $1,750 (I think that's what I paid) into it. I know I traded "up" since I took back a few cards.

So I "made" at the time like $750 even off what I paid for the SPA... let alone the $500 in extra value

And at the end of the day, with no clue what I got for Jordan, I probably still got $15,000+ in trade for the LeBron that currently goes for $20,000

Most of my losses have gone that direction.

Only one I know I lost big on was I got rid of my LeBron Ultimate BGS 9.5/10... which is now like $50,000 I believe... I don't even recall what I got for that (like I do the LeBron Chrome in the SPA trade) so I couldn't have done well

I highly recommend you do not look at prices on the SPA and Ultimate.

Slightly off topic question, I wasn't in the hobby at the time, but did this same thing happen with Steph Curry? Did his cards go from nothing to a lot around 2015 or 2016?
