Default 2024 Copa America Prizm

Saw that Dick's had a presale on blasters and Megas. Looks like the MSRP will be 30 and 50 on these.

Really excited to get another set I can collect, hopefully they just do a 100 (or 200 tops) base checklist and don't print this to the moon. But with this potentially being Messi's last big tournament and in the US, I don't know how likely it is.

Could be an interesting product, but more than likely they’ll blow it.

And as usual, it won’t be released until after the tournament.

I saw that on Dick’s, too, but didn’t know how good it might be.

There's a hobby box page on a certain metal city website too.

1 auto, 4 numbered cards per box

Chase iconic, hard-to-find SSP inserts like National Landmarks, Manga and National Pride, falling once per case on average. Rarer still? The Color Wheel insert and the CONMEBOL Copa America Logo Card, each falling once every 10 cases on average.

Thanks for the input guys. Seems like there'll be plenty for me to chase so I better start saving from now.

It's just crazy how Panini drops the ball on this kind of stuff. Release it in late May, set up a booth during the games and let people rip/trade. Tournament starts in less than a month and today was the first time I've heard about this.

On top of that, 4 numbered cards per hobby box on a 200 card base set plus blasters and megas makes me think they printed the hell out of this.

For a 16-team tournament, that's not bad...approximately 12 players per country, with Brazil, Argentina, USA, Mexico, etc. probably getting closer to 15, and the less popular nations getting closer to 10.

The real question is the price point....if it's priced like Prizm World Cup was, it's DOA.

Nah, I think he's right. I was hoping for 100, maybe 150. 200 is just too much.

Even if you have the big hobby 3 (Argentina, Brazil and US), there are still 110 cards for 13 teams. Let's put the average at 8-9 per team.

That's a lot when there are not that many team collectors for those other teams. And it's not like there are that many player collectors for players on those other teams.

I'm one of those collectors and it's gonna be a pain in the ass to build my collection with so many parallels for so many players (expecting at least 8). Mosaic RTWC was really hard and that's the main reason I didn't actively try to get more. And they only had 5 players in the set then.

I hear you....but then isn't there ALWAYS some chaff in every product? Unless you're releasing 50 card sets in which every single player is a star/superstar, you're always going to have a bunch of commons/less desirable players.

Just about every product is 20-25% players you want, 75-80% chaff.

I mean....how many truly desirable players are there going to be at the Copa? Maybe Messi, Vini Jr., Endrick (if he's in the squad), and then the USMNT players for Americans.

I agree with you, I just think the number is gonna be lower than 20%, I would say there might be around 20-30 desired players total.

I would add Kendry Paez and Estevao as desired rookies (if they make the cut). The release is aimed at team collectors but there are not that many of us so having 10+ players with 10+ each might be too much.

All you have to do is hit a numbered Messi, Endrick, and Pulisic in the same box to potentially get your money back.

$350 and the late release date is a joke for this.

I don't know, if the highest print run for a numbered card is 399, do you really make your money back?

This is 100% relying on hitting a SP insert or auto. And even if you do, it's hard to break even at this price.

I am guessing less than 1% of people opening this product will 'make their money back'. That seems to be the going rate.

With almost every set released, in an already saturated market, the print runs get higher and the overall value of cards gets lower. There are a few exceptions, but the major players (Panini, Topps/Fanatics) have their strategy hopelessly wrong.

They should be trying to widen their base of collectors, providing affordable hobby boxes especially for potential younger collectors, and instead, are killing the market with overpriced garbage.

It is not just young collectors they are turning away. They are also alienating core collectors. I don't even bother tracking what releases are coming or when anymore. Have completely given up on opening wax.
