Default 1984 Star Jordan 195 help

Hi all,

Have an opportunity to pick this card up. It is at a decent price since the seller can’t confirm if it is the real deal or a reprint. It is graded by one of the 4th or 5th tier graders. I didn’t pick it up on this trip sine I am leery comparing it to BGS graded copies. There are a few things that look slightly different from the graded ones on ebay. Can anyone confirm that this is real or a reprint/rerun based off of your experience please. Thanks for any help!

I know PSA stopped grading these a few years back because even they couldn’t tell the difference. Maybe factor that into the price.

First off, thank you for providing some really great close-up scans of the card. This makes it easier to legit check versus having a really bad, poorly lit photo. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your Star MJ is fake. I have provided scans of my authentic to compare with your photos.
  1. First off, the "Officially Licensed Product" is not crisp. Also the spacing on Jordan's last name text is completely off in distance to the Officially License Product logo.
  2. Second, the text of the NBAPA logo is also not crisp.
  3. And third, on the front, the coloring around the white area of Jordan's shorts is completely off color. Also the "4" in 1984 is slightly different. And the blue border on the Jerry West NBA logo is cut open on the fake. Also, the "B" on "NBA" in the NBA logo is off on the fake.
  4. This card is extremely difficult to find centered. Many of the cards in the Specials bag that included the #195 and #288 Jordans are notoriously off centered. That should have been red flag #1 actually.

Hope you didn't pay a lot for that.

Psa don’t know jack sht about star. That’s why they stopped grading. Keep following their word like it’s gospel. Baaaaaaaaaaaa

Centering alone makes this card fake. Not possible. If it were it would be in a bgs slab.

Thank you so much for the awesome analysis and confirmation that this is not authentic. Luckily I had my doubts and did not purchase it. He was looking for $300 on it since he wasn’t sure if it was real having bought it from someone else a while ago. I looked at it against slabbed BGS copies online and saw some differences so I am glad I came here to ask before wasting my money on it. Thanks again, I appreciate it!!

Some excellent analysis above. As posted earlier, there is virtually no way a legitimate example of this card would have good centering on both the front and back of the card. Virtually every legitimate copy of this card has terrible LR centering on the front. On the off chance it could have good front centering it would be almost certain the back centering would then be terrible.
