Default 1992 Bowman Pedro Martinez

Getting back into the hobby after a short break. Can anyone explain the sharp increase in price on the 1992 Bowman Pedro?

You'd have better luck in the Baseball forum, not the Vintage forum.

Easy, key HOF players rookie cards and base are going up in price. 1992 Bowman is considered the set to own. 1991 Pedro RC's suffer from overproduction. His 1992 was in demand back then too. It's just come full circle.

But yeah, 1992 isnt vintage

Pedro's only RC was from Final Edition which was not overproduced. 3k PSA 10s to 1.5k on the Bowman. Considering that the 1991 is needed for RC registry sets, that isn't much of a difference. If the Bowman stays up in price, you will see a bunch more get graded. At 30-40 it's not really worth grading. At 100+ it is.

The entire 1991 final edition boxed set is readily available for $3. It most certainly was overproduced.

I actually think this is bigger than Pedro's bowman RC card. A number of cards from the 80s and 90s and double or tripled. Strawberry 108T RC card has doubled, Barry bonds 1987 non Tiffany card that was going for 30-40 bucks is now in the 180 realm. 1980 rickey Henderson Topps RC PSA 9, I bought last month for 419 it's now demanding 750-850. Manny Ramirez Yopps rc, not even his Bowman, has also doubled. The list really goes on and on.

Do the prices fluctuate up and down or from your experience this will continue to just be a steady / explosive rise?

the 1992 Bowman isn't his "rookie card", i think it's 1991.

But that Bowman set is one of the most iconic baseball sets ever made.

I don't think he is in the 91 set. I'm familiar with his U.D Rookie and the 1992 going strong. share pic of the RC you mean?

Hey now, it's heating up, they're going for $6 each now

I'm sitting on a stack of 8 of them that I picked up many years ago for $1.50 each, probably better to just bust them, toss the commons, and sell the key cards as a lot or send to PSA (Pedro, Thome, I-Rod, Lofton)

As to the original question, no doubt the 92 Bowman Pedro is seen as the best early card of him since 92 Bowman was considered a premium set back in the day and didn't have the print run as the other major brands.

This convo isn't making me feel so great about the 91 UD final Edition Pedro PSA9 I picked up at the local card show for $10 a few months ago

I'd be a buyer on the '91 Final Edition sets all day long at $3-$5 per set. Not only does it contain Pedro's only true rookie, it also has Jim Thome (one of only 2 rookie cards of him, the other being '91 Bowman) and Ivan Rodriguez. I'd say there is great value there.

speaking of Pedro, i remember going to a show many many years ago, and asking to buy a Pedro rookie.

guy offers me a Pedro rookie card from Upper Deck, i buy it for $2....it's not his rookie.

it's a 2nd year card even though it says "star rookie". this stuff helped drive the whole RC logo stuff of the 2000s.

Three Hall of Fame RC's in an update or final edition set is pretty impressive.

Most, if not all of the 1980's to present RC's have risen dramatically. Will be interesting to see what happens.
