Default Babe Ruth Relic Cards

I’ve been wanting to pickup a bat relic of Ruth but am seeing reports online that there was a controversy.

Is there a particular year I should avoid for am I being too paranoid. I would probably pick up a Topps relic only.

Thoughts?

In the early 00s, the game-used relic cards were the hits and chases of many products, and card companies gobbled up jerseys, bats, pants, gloves and hats from these vintage players. For Ruth specifically Donruss and Upper Deck made a bunch, Fleer fewer, and Topps the least of them all, as I believe they only ever acquired a bat of his. You'll want to get a card that says it was a relic used by Ruth in an official MLB game on the back. 2001-2005 are going to be the years where all the card companies did this and Ruth relics are most abundant. Topps specifically produced most of theirs from 2001-2003. Note that certain sets will carry a premium, so do a bit of research.

Hope this helps.

My opinion would be to stick to the early 00s stuff. Lots of the Donruss ones had actual pictures of the bat on the back.

I'm partial to the 2001 Upper Deck Hall of Famers bat cards.

From my set...

I always wondered about these types of game used bat cards - did Topps stamp the logo onto the wood during the card construction process? Obviously the logo wasn't on Babe's original bat.

I have a 2017 Leaf bat card around here somewhere.
I think there were a bunch of those, and they specified some were Boston bats vs NYY bats?

The entire set has the team logo woodburned in there.

Here’s a few…

Fleer

Topps

Hands down, the best (and what I would go with) … Upper Deck

I just think they look much nicer. I’m not much of a Topps fan - I believe late 90’s to mid 2000’s Upper Deck made some of the nicest cards ever made.

I’ll have to do some more research. I definitely feel these are undervalued and I don’t know why. It’s literally game used by the greatest baseball player ever

Exactly, I still feel that the early Ruth bats are so undervalued. Last few years I’ve went back and bought the ones from that era that I’ve always liked, but for whatever reason, didn’t have yet.

I’ll probably pick up a 2000-2005 Ruth bat this week. I wanted a nice Ruth card to pair with my Ohtani rookie.
