That was fast. Sounds like a steal.

Not techically a FA signing, but this is the largest contract Mike Elias has ever signed a player to.

Also, Rutschman's time in Baltimore is short I'm thinking.

Basallo is likely not a long-term solution at catcher given his frame and hit tool. With that being said, I like Adley but who he has been as a player for the past 2 years now does not warrant big money.

Adley’s best asset is his defense, Basallo’s best asset is offense. Time will tell if trading Adley turns out to be the best decision.

Right… I’m not sure what happened with Adley. A month or two into 2024 he became a totally different player. Maybe it was just him being hurt but he went from being the teams leader to having a hard time competing pretty quickly.

Remember when the orioles were going to be a dynasty with all the top prospects they got for sucking for so long? Well look, theyre in last place again.

We have a winning record since firing Hyde and nearly 10 losses were entirely because of Charlie Morton tossing BP at the start of the year. If he had even been average, we'd be about .500, even with significant injuries. We've had something like 60+ different players suit up this year.

1 bad signing and a lot of bad luck with health sunk this season but the Orioles are by no means a bad team.

They showed a stat last night where we have the 6th best record in baseball since mid-June. Horrible start under Hyde sunk us. I feel like the Orioles should be a playoff team again next year.

If they spend on pitching. Waiting until yesterday for surgery on Rodriguez certainly didn't help. I wish them well.

Sam played a lot of 1st base in the minors and they still have other catching prospects. My guess is Adley stays for now and they play a wait and see with next season.

Adley isnt going anywhere. Basallo likely not the long term catcher for the O's. Does seem like a steal for the potential his bat has

Oh… I def think Adley serves out his contract. Or at least doesn’t get traded away until the year before free agency. I just think it’s doubtful the Orioles resign him beyond his initial contract. I feel like most of the hyped draft guys probably won’t be extended. I think Westburg has best shot of being the longest serving Oriole of the young guys. Gunnar, Adley, Holliday all sign somewhere else after serving out their initial Orioles contract. And Cowser probably never performs to potential (he basically has had one hot month — April 2024 — since becoming an Oriole) and the Orioles won’t extend him beyond his current contract.

It’s nice to see Basallo get locked up. I almost think he has the worst agent ever for extending for such a low amount. I mean O’Neill is almost making the same amount putzing around for only 3 years.

We played the Orioles right after he got called up and the Sox broadcasters mentioned that the O's really like him at 1st, so maybe -

"Mountcastle, welcome to the Yankees!"

It's always smart for these younger players to sign contracts like this, as they are guaranteed the money regardless of play, yet they can easily force the team to re-negotiate the contract if they exceed it.

Does this mean the Orioles do not get a draft pick if he wins ROY next year?
