Default Create a team to beat this big 3

**Stolen from reddit**

This team has Prime Curry/LeBron/Shaq

This team also has solid role players like Danny Green and Serge Ibaka and a solid bench.

You are an NBA GM and you get to create a big 3 of your own to counter this team.

All players in their primes.

ALL players in NBA history are playing in the 2019-2020 season. (MJ, Bird, Russell, Wilt, etc)

Rules are 2019. So no hand-checking and other 90s rules.

What other team with a big 3 + 2 role players can you make that could beat this team?

(Role players: zero all star selections (including replacement), zero all nba teams. Players with all defensive teams are allowed.)

2) What will be your defensive gameplan against a team with Prime Shaq, LeBron and Steph?

3) Can your team create a mismatch to expose the other team?

MJ, Durant, Hakeem, Mike Conley, Brent Barry

I think Durant is very underrated defensively.

MJ/Bird/Embiid

Defensive gameplan is dig in the post off of Lebron when Shaq has the ball. Force Lebron to settle for 3's. Don't give Curry any shooting space.

Offensively...pick and pop EVERY single time with MJ and Embiid. Space Bird off if they choose to help the pick and roll. This is how Shaq was always neutralized.

Roll players...a guard/wing that can shoot (to space the floor off of pick and pop) and doesn't completely suck at guarding Lebron and a big that can shoot and is a strong post defender.

Exactly. Any team with MJ wins because Steph wouldn't score and couldn't cover MJ.

MJ and Bird, you don't even need a 3rd. The two most clutch players of all time.

MJ
Michael Cooper
Kawhi
Bird
Sabonis

Pretty straight forward. MJ on Curry.

A combination of Cooper (one of the best defensive specialists of all time)/Bird (epic defensively early in his career) and Kawhi (nuff said) on LBJ (can't shut him down completely, only make his life more difficult). So much defensive versatility and capability to switch off players at will.

Can't stop Shaq, but Sabonis had the size and girth to bang around with him. Also had the ability to play inside out (those players like Olajuwon gave Shaq fits) and epic distributor. Double teaming with a combination of the above guys also helps.

Offense runs through MJ. Cooper the spot up shooter in the corners (was a good 3 point shooter and not ball dominant), Kawhi and Bird being anywhere on the floor they want, and Sabonis doing the same.

Team built for modern day spread offense with unmatched defensive ability and 3 of the most clutch shooters in NBA history.

God bless.

Big 3: MJ/Wilt/Harden

Role players: Pat Beverly and Josh Smith

Beverly will be asked to make Curry's life hell. MJ and Smith will take turns guarding Lebron. Wilt and Shaq will duke it out 1 on 1 all game, and Wilt will have the upper hand (coming from a big Shaq fan, btw).

James Harden will be asked to do what he does best.. Shoot and make lots of threes, and get to the foul line. When Shaq and Ibaka inevitably double Wilt in the post, he'll kick it out to open Josh Smith and he can drive the lane.. If anyone wants to leave their man, he can kick it out to Harden, MJ, or Beverly.. Not terrible options considering Curry is "defending" Beverly. LOL.

The biggest key though, will be the mental warfare. James Harden will trigger the weak minded Lebron James with his ability to rack up fouls on him and his teammates. Michael and Beverly will be talking trash to Lebron the entire time this is happening, making matters even worse for the "King".

Perhaps the even more important strategy to upset the apple cart, Big Wilt the stilt will add to his 20,000+ body count with each one of his opponent's women on the night before the game, after they're intoxicated by the marijuana that Josh Smith has provided his teammate's with. This renders their opponents demoralized and in no frame of mind to compete in a high level game of professional basketball. Allowing my team to coast to a.. Not 5, not 10, not 15.. But 20 point victory over their opponents. And Kevin Durant from his burner accounts tweeting that they should've picked him over Lebron for this big game.

Jordan/Pippen/Rodman

Defense good enough to lock anyone down and the worm to grab any and ALL rebounds.

I thought of this 3 but I don't think Scottie shoots well enough to compensate for Rodman on offense

Petro made an all-nba team and deserved at least 1 if not 2 all-star nods.

Michael Jordan/Larry Bird and who Shaq said was one of his toughest matchups of all time, Rik Smits.

Quote:
"Rik destroyed me every time. Oh, my God. Pick-and-pop, jump hook in the post, I couldn't stop that kid. If it wasn't for his foot problems," he said. "I probably [never would] have been able to stop him. When we played them in the [2000] Finals, I had to go back to some old tape. I saw that this guy used to kill me, so now that I'm here in the Finals, I got to kill him immediately so he understands this is a different Shaq."

I’d probably go MJ, Kobe and dream. My two role players would be Marcus camby and Jalen rose. Three guys that can handle the ball/run the offence and two of the best post defenders/shot blockers of their eras. Kobe or Jordan would give lebron headaches and either one could guard Curry as well. Dream would play Shaq one on one with camby on the help side. Camby roaming free blocking shots would be a monster. Nobody is stopping Jordan and Kobe from getting 65-70 between the two of them

So we're trying to create a team that can beat the best passer of all time (Lebron James), the greatest shooter of all time (Steph Curry), and the most dominant inside presence of all time (Shaq)?

I'll probably take the team from reddit.

My best guess is Jordan, Kawhi, and Tim Duncan plus Derek Fisher (quick hands #5rings) and Lamar Odom (length, handles, #Khloe).

Kawhi has historically done really well defending Lebron one on one and keeping him from driving. I think we can all agree on that. So you let Steph run around and get open on screens like he has made a living doing. If the defenders cheat or double team Steph like the Raptors did well, then you have the best passer/decision maker maybe to ever play with an opportunity to find the open man. This is all assuming that the team doesn't just dish it down to Shaq for a high percentage 2 point shot all game long.

All in all, Bron/Steph/Shaq would be really hard to defend. I don't know how you do it.

I understand the criticism of Steph defensively, but he's managed to win 3 rings with it and he came pretty close on 2 other tries.
