Default Hollywood42's former Twins PC

Had some time to kill today, so thought I'd put together some scans to share my former Twins PC. This isn't something I have a super high priority for, but for certain guys that I really enjoyed watching while they played in Minnesota, I'll pick up some cards of them here and there with their teams after their time with the Twins. In particular, Justin Morneau, Brian Dozier, and Michael Cuddyer are all guys that I enjoy picking stuff up from even if not in a Twins uniform. There's a handful others that I grab from time to time, but currently don't have enough of them to really show anything off. Anyways, though I'd share what I have of that trio. Nothing too crazy at all, but it's fun to keep growing my collection of these 3.

Justin Morneau

Morneau is my all-time guy. He and Mauer were such a treat to watch growing up. They were both at the top of their game when I was really getting into baseball and the hobby, so I naturally gravitated to both of them. I still wonder all the time what his career may have turned out to be like if not for the concussion that derailed his 2010 season, and really threw off his entire career. He was on pace for an even better year than his 2006 MVP-winning campaign, and was only 29 in that 2010 year. He wasn't bad in the rest of his career, and even won a batting title with Colorado, but was never close to the levels in the first half of his career.

I picked up a few nicer cards here and there of Morneau growing up, but never had much money to go anything close all in him. Then early this year I had the opportunity to pick up what must have been one of the better Morneau PCs out there, and I jumped at the chance as I had finally finished college and had some real money to throw at some stuff. That series of maildays is still the coolest I've had.

At any rate, Morneau's been one of my favorite players since day 1, and he's one guy that I'm always keeping an eye out for cool cards of, even if he's not with the Twins on the card. Here's what I've gathered so far-

Brian Dozier

Doze is high up on my list of favorite Twins, too. His peak wasn't very long in comparison to others, but it sure was a good few years. I really, really enjoyed watching him with the Twins as he came a bit out of nowhere, played the same position I did growing up, and seemed like a genuine good guy. Unfortunately the Twins generally didn't have enough good pieces around Dozier during his prime to really make a run at things, but Dozier was the man on the Twins while I was starting to get more involved in the sport and understand more of the nuances of the game and appreciate the history of it. I'm still disappointed Dozier hasn't been able to have more personal success on the field than he has since leaving the Twins, but he's now been in the World Series in back to back years, including getting a ring with the Nationals last year! I wished he could have played a bigger role in the title, but hey, it's still pretty sweet!

Michael Cudder

The last guy I'll show off for now, Cuddy was another mainstay for the Twins in my youth. He didn't have the peak that other guys have had, but locked down right field for the Twins as long as I can remember. Like Morneau, Cuddy also won a batting title with the Rockies after his time with the Twins. He's one of the first Twins I remember meeting at Twinsfest as a young kid, and he was as nice as could be. He takes great care when signing autographs, crediting Harmon Killebrew for teaching him the right way to sign autographs for fans. Cuddy's one of the true good guys that the Twins have had, and it's nice to continue adding his cards to my collection, especially because many of them are pretty affordable.

That's what I have to share for now! Like I said, nothing earth shattering at all, but select former Twins have been a fun side project to work on here and there. Apologies if the pictures were too big, having a difficult time today scaling them down without losing a lot of quality.

I'm not going to keep this thread updated with every single add, but I will try to post updates from time to time. Thanks for the look!

Cool little project! Like always Hollywood, you have a knack for taking the “cheaper” cards and make them look great all together.

True collecting right there!

Sad and happy to say all at once, but I was very sad to see Dozier go away, but so glad he got the chance to win a ring, great player who deserved one, just wish he would have been able to get one with us.

Too bad we could never get Mauer one, but the other day I was thinking about it, could you imagine Mauer behind the plate, with Dozier across from him? Who would have ever been able to steal second against that combo?

Nice collection

I reminder when Morneau retired with the Sox. Joe Crede did the opposite with the Twins

Or one of my favorite former Twins, Phil Hughes, or Boof Bonser.

I've said it before, but imagine what the team might have been if not for concussions to Mauer and Morneau. Really wrecked both of their careers. Imagine continuing to have 2 perennial MVP candidates healthy and in their primes as Target Field opened and ownership willing to spend a bit. The team as it is today would not exist, but we'll never know what could have been. Who knows

That still feels so wrong. I was at his first game back at Target Field with the Sox. Nice ovation when he came to the plate. I remember he belted one high off the right field wall in his first at bat. Even as a Twins fan, was rooting for that one to go out!
