Default 97/98 ULTRA PLATINUM - same serial number HELP

Recently, PWCC had several cards serial numbered 97/100 & 98/100 listed on eBay. Someone on IG mentioned that it could be from a lucky breaker that won a full platinum set back in 97/98. Was there such a thing in this products release? Also, would UD have given the collector all the same serial numbers from that set? I am very interested in one of these cards but just wanted to be sure before I get outbid thanks and any help is appreciated

Yes, and they generally graded better too since they weren't packed out in boxes.

As someone who received an original set, the packaging was very odd.

I received the series 1 #098/100 set.

It was in a normal box, and instead of packing peanuts or bubble wrap, Fleer used 1998 Ultra Platinum baseball cards that had been put thru a paper shredder. I was able to take all the pieces and put some of them together to form the majority of players such as Jeter, Ripken just to name a few. And all of them had the full serial #/98 on them. These weren't just extra issues, possibly could have been duplicates. I am not sure, but very puzzling.

The cards were wrapped in a very tight plastic in one big stack. They were not in any kind of normal box you'd store cards in.

I remember having to be extremely careful when I opened the set because of how tight the plastic was on them and any jab or cut could damage the edges.

The top and the bottom of the stack, the plastic itself was tighter than what it was in the middle. I would estimate the top 20-30 and bottom 20-30 cards had much more chipping than the ones in the middle.

I know the Kobe card was at the top, and it had a fair amount of chipping, maybe 8-8.5 grade at the best.

Many of he better players like Jordan and Duncan, which were found closer to the middle, were probably borderline 8.5 to 9 condition at best.

So I would not ever expect these to be in any better condition than ones you'd find in boxes. Maybe they packaged other sets better than mine.

At the time I was just starting to learn about submitting cards to PSA and I did not consider any of these cards really worth sending in.
Back in 2000, PSA was extremely tough on cards, and getting back a bunch of 8s and 8.5s would have only lowered the values.

Hmmm good to know. I'd read that in 4 or 5 different places but it looks like my info was wrong.

PMG championship, Ultra Platinum.... Any others? It would be really cool to know which other sets offered full redeemable numbered sets. I feel like I'm always learning about this. At one point, I had three different SN's from the last five Metal Championship PMG sets, which allowed me to know that no more than 2 could possibly still be complete.

It's incredible to think that somewhere, could actually be a plastic wrapped PMG set out there.
