Default Chase Utley - Good Investment Opportunity?

What do you all think when it comes to investing in Chase Ultey RC's? Guy's already retired and has stats that look comparable to Roberto Alomar who's already in the HOF. Literally has only 2 RC's: 2001 Bowman Heritage (which could be had for $10 or less ungraded) and 2001 Bowman Draft (which could be had for $30 or less ungraded). To me, he looks like a HOF on paper and his cards currently can still be had for very cheap since they're both low end. Of course, this isn't to say that he's a one hundred percent guarantee shoo-in for the Hall. But say he does make it, what do you think this would do for his RC's? And ultimately, is this a good time to invest?

Questions:

1. Do you love Chase Utley and do you already collect his cards w/ a passion? Yes or No?

2. If the answer is NO...Do you love wasting time and money?

Edit: Not trying to be mean...I promise.

The words “invest” and “Chase Ultey” have no business being mentioned in the same sentence together.

Half the guys on this board are probably investing in Topps Project 70 and NBA Top Shot, so I would take investment advice with a grain of salt. If you think he has a path to the HOF, there's little downside to stock up. If he doesn't, you have to think about what value a Bobby Grich or Kevin Brown rookie holds, because that's the company he'd be in.

Im not "investing" in either. The answer is still NO.

I say you and others like you stop buying up cards you couldn't give less of a sh!t about except to flip for money so that actual player collectors don't have to pay 4 and 5 times the price for the guys they like.

Only if players’ values are solely based on their career numbers vs. the Mets

1. Have a few cards, including '01 Bowman Draft (pulled from pack). And yes, kinda do like him. But wouldn't say with "a passion."
2. I suppose what you're insinuating here is that even if he does make the HOF, his key cards still would not appreciate in value? Thus not worth investing in?

Btw, no worries. You're okay. Just looking for direct answers; thanks.

Damn OP, you've hit rock bottom. If someone dear to me asked me if Chase Utley was a good investment I would be googling treatment centers.

Utley and Rollins autograph cards have always been easy sales for me. They were fan favorites in Philly (Utley more) and didn’t sign a lot of cards.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see about that. Didn't really expect Harold Baines or Jack Morris to make it in, but they did anyway. And at least Utley looks like he's got a pretty decent case. Best 2B for the first decade of the 2000's still counts for something.

I'd be surprised if he stays on the ballot after a couple years.

Some things you know without waiting. This is one of them. He isn't a HOFer.

Harold Baines in in the HOF, and he is crap. HOF aint what it used to be

the list of crappy HOFs grows just about annually.

if you want to invest (in cards, nobody should do that at all), go with J Roll over Utley

Way better player than a guy like Jeter, but at the end of the day it's about popularity, not how good a player is. Not a worthwhile investment.

Yes, he is a fantastic investment. On an unrelated note, I also think that Lebron James 18th Year Lakers RC Prizm PSA 10s are an excellent investment too

Guess eventually everything goes up as long as people collect them. Look at some of the 80's mediocre players, they have gone up. Sure it's 40 years ago, so I'm guessing by 2040 it might go up too. Invest now? lol

I am a huge Phillies and Chase Utley fan.

Hall of Fame? I'd put it at a 0% chance. A four year peak followed by a middling end of career does nothing on top of a slew of injuries.

Now if we're talking the Phillies' Wall of Fame he's a 100% lock

If Bobby Grich didn't make it in, I'm not sure how Utley makes it in.

....Lou Whitaker too, btw, tho I think he winds up in there in the end.

Just look at Alomar. He was way better than Utley and should’ve been a first ballot HOFer if he wasn’t an insufferable jerk and his cards still aren’t worth a whole lot. So I’m gonna go with a hard no on Utley being a good investment.

I also don’t think they’re all that comparable. Alomar was a .300 lifetime hitter compared to .275 for Utley and Alomar won 10 Gold Gloves to Utley’s 0.

This might be the worst take I have ever seen on these boards

And that’s saying A LOT
