Ernie Banks died in 2015, Topps Fire has an sticker auto of him in 2017. Don't know what to think, it'd be cool to get a chance at a Ruth or Cobb auto in 2017 or a Trout or ((Insert name)) in 3017 but is it good for the hobby? Wonder what you all think.

All it speaks to is how overproduced autos are. Remember Musial's estate just auctioning off sheets upon sheets of sticker autos for like 10 bucks per?
I don't think they're fake if that's what you're implying with your Ruth/Cobb comment.

If it’s just some back stock they have then no big deal. I’m not sure I’d be down with them stockpiling sticker autos so they could release them in 50 years but not sure it’s a huge deal either. What I find interesting is how so much old memorabilia gets dredged up every year to be cut for cards. I mean look at the stuff in the current National Treasures release. Shoeless Joe relics, bunches of relics from guys pre baseball cards existing. Where the heck does all that stuff come from?

Not a big deal and I am sure Topps is stocking up on some of the old timers just so they can have their autograph on future products.

The better question would be why do we keep spending on their products?

Well, the stickers are paid for (should be). So if you are the card company, what are you going to do with them?

In situations like this I would see no difference between these sticker autos and cut signatures. Both would be produced after the players are deceased and function the same way. It's fine.
