Arrow Talk about the grinch, this eBay seller surprised me with this message!

Bid on this auction on a last minute impulse right before I was about to sit down and eat Christmas Dinner with the family yesterday...

So the normal Christmas activities went on and I didn't get a chance to check my phone until late last night where I see that I won the auction.

I was planning on paying tonight as I've been on the road driving to my in-laws house in Virginia all day when I get this message while on the road:

See my response and then see his response.

Seller must have had a bad Christmas or coal in his stocking.

Geez. I see now the auction states payment was due within 24 hours but I didn't see that when I was bidding because it was a last minute eBay impulse buy.

Am I wrong here? Was that response from the seller really necessary?

I guess you just have to wait until Jan 3rd... I don't think you deserved a mean message I personally would've sent you a message saying that if you didnt pay within 24 hrs I was leaving for vacation.

What a jerk....just added him to my "sellers to ignore" list....he shouldn't be running auctions if he's leaving on vacation the day after they end, since even if people did pay within 24 hours, he still probably wouldn't be able to get them shipped.

I have had messages like that, when I get them I check the listing to see if I missed anything. You could have done the same before responding, but no reason for the response you received.

Seller's message was inappropriate, but listing stated 24 hours to pay.

Your message confuses me, because you say that he should have stated in the description that he was going on vacation. Listing said payment was required within 24 hours, which you weren't aware of because you didn't read the listing properly...so even if seller said they were going on vacation, you wouldn't have seen it anyway...because you didn't read the listing.

Poor attitude by the seller, but you're also partly at fault.

He can say anything he wants, the fact is you have to wait
2 days to open a case and 4 days to close so at the very least all buyers have 6 days to
Pay no matter what the seller states. It's pretty much a meaningless demand unless they aren't going to ship to you.

Not meaningless at all, the seller can very easily just cancel the sale then.

Looks like another impulse buy that you didn't want to pay for. Seems a bit shady on both parties though. If it was a card you really wanted you would have made the payment for sure right then and there when it ended. And if it's something the seller truly wanted to sell (at that price) he would've gladly taken payment after a day. Probably a greedy seller trying to get more $$$.

Based on your 50,050 unread emails, you don't seem like the kind of person that likes to read things in general

seller's response was out of line but it would have been avoided had you read the item description. the eBay iOS app makes it easier to miss the item description since it requires an extra click away from the main auction page. I've been guilty of this myself but luckily haven't had any bad repercussions.

I don't think you were in the wrong at all Leon. People have at least 6 days to pay for items, regardless of any demands in the listings. I have people pay for stuff in 1 minute and 6 days. Both are fine by me.

The seller may have been annoyed but if he doesn't like the terms eBay has set he should sell on BO, COMC, or elsewhere.

Seller seems like a dick but do you have issue with him shipping Jan 3 or no?

You can put whatever you want in the description, ebay/paypal rules overrule any of that. Try putting no returns and see what happens if someone wants to return something.

Sure the seller sent you a nasty gram but do you want the card or not? You can't take things like this so personal, and if you do your life will be wrapped around drama. This isn't even worth creating a thread.

Go away with your logical thinking. Nobody needs that trash around here.

lol but seriously OP, was this really deserving of a thread? Accept that some people are dicks and move on with your life

I don't understand, you had time to bid and time to message him why not just pay him, ebay app makes it so easy to pay there really isn't an excuse to not pay after you win unless you bought multiple cards and were waiting for a combined invoice.

Why didn't you just pay right then?

His response was salty, but kind of funny......I say you are both at fault.

It's perfectly understandable that Christmas activities delayed payment. I think if OP would have just ended the message at "Thanks for letting me know", everything would have been fine. I think it's also understandable that the seller lost his cool when the "you should have posted that you were leaving" comment was added.

In any case, let it go. Pay dat man his money.

Although I don't agree with the seller giving you a nasty msg, a payment takes less than 30 seconds. And you said "...I didn't get a chance to check my phone until late last night..." Buddy, we are near the end of 2016...everyone is ALWAYS on their phones, especially during X-mas activities.

You are wrong. People do not have at least 6 days to pay for an item, as you stated. If the item states payment due in 24 hours and you agree (by bidding and winning), then you have 24 hours to pay, it is as simple as that. The seller can now cancel the auction.

and after a couple of these, the seller will be suspended or kicked off ebay since they count as a defect against you.

Sellers who claim there was a problem with the buyer's address or that the buyer asked to cancel the auction can cancel without it counting as a defect, even if the seller is lying and wants to cancel because the auction ended too low for their liking.
I've found several sellers who had 1 or 2 Flawless cards who were apparently surprised that the card they got in a team or player break is only worth $5 or so, and would rather keep it and cancel the auction after I won. Another seller seems to have managed to cancel an entire Topps Chrome break this way after it closed for about $150 under what cases were selling for.
