Default How much weight have you ever lost?

Think about a discrete period in your life during which you lost a significant amount of weight. This does not necessarily refer to what you weigh now. Just select the option that best describes the amount of weight you lost at one prior point in your life.

Less than 20. My metabolism has stayed pretty healthy, luckily.

Between Freshman & Sophomore year of college I was in the best shape of my life when I lost ~45 pounds eating right, playing basketball ~2-3 hours a day for 5-6 days a week, biking, and lifting.

Now, I'm down 40+ pounds since the beginning of the year and 70+ since mid-2022, mostly eating right.

I lost between 40 and 45 pounds over a period of 3-4 years simply by cutting out most sodas and trying not to eat when I wasn't hungry. I didn't exercise and I didn't stop eating any particular food. Since then I have gained around 5 pounds of it back depending on the day.

70 down! Wow, that's awesome!

My achievement was 30# dropped in 7 mos. prior to my second hip replacement in 2023. So far have kept it off but it's a constant battle.

Going on tours in a hardcore band, sometime coming back home losing around 10-15 pounds from barely eating anything, hardly ever sleeping and playing the drums 100 miles an hour everyday will do that.

Thanks!

Ain't it the truth. I figured I needed to get in better shape to keep up with the little guy.

I rarely drink soda, cut down on alcohol consumption, don't really snack, and make much better choices in terms of food. No regular exercise yet, but I'd like to incorporate walking 3-4 times a week as well.

The key is to not totally deprive yourself...

In 2022, I went from around 345 to 200. I’m sitting around 240 now.

From 2019-2021 I went from 375 to 199. When Covid started and I had to use a mask in the gym, that stopped me from going. I just never got back into the groove. I did great working out at home, but eventually stopped doing that.

I’ve gained a bit of it back, but I’ve made good progress getting back down. I’ve actually lost over 100 pounds twice in my life. Luckily I don’t need to lose that much again, but another 50 and I’ll be happy.

I just love beer and food too much.

About 5 years ago my highest weight was 234. Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Doctor put me on Ozempic when it first hit the market. I am down to 140!...without even trying...now i have people telling me i am too thin.
A1C has improved a ton, was as high as 9.1 and now down to around 5.8-6.0.

Incredible. Do you have side effects? Stomach issues? I need to do something. I've been battling (and sometimes not even battling) my weight my entire life. When people talk about the "food noise" that describes me perfectly. It's a constant voice in my head, 24/7. I'm just terrified of having stomach problems for the rest of my life on one of those medications. So either I die of a heart attack soon or I can't digest anything the rest of my life. Both sound awful.

And before anyone says "get your ass in the gym" I totally understand. It has just never worked for me and my willpower to say no to my drug (food) has just never been there.

I struggled with the same food issues, heck I still do, but I was able to make it a full year eating right. Leading up to January 1, 20222, I went crazy eating everything I wanted. On January 1, I cut everything not healthy out. No sweets, no pizza, no burgers, no pasta, no eating out. I ate a strict diet for 1 year just to see what would happen.

Now, I’ve started eating stuff I shouldn’t. I need to get back to eating healthy EXCEPT when I go out.

Ozepmic made me nauseous almost every morning, it seemed like i would "dry heave" for about 2 minutes every morning around the same time like clock work.
About 2 years ago it was starting to get difficult to find ozempic so the doctor put me on Mounjaro. I never got nauseous again thankfully. The weight just disappeared.
I will say though after being on the injections once a week now for a little over 5 years that i feel like food just don't taste the same anymore, almost like i am slowly losing my taste.
I dont know if the injections have anything to do with it, but i am a lot weaker muscle wise. When i was over 230+ lbs. i felt stronger and more fit.
I run into people who haven't seen me in a while and their reactions are always the same "Wow! you lost a lot of weight"
So although it helped me tremendously with my A1C and weight I cant help to wonder if years down the road it would lead up to underline health issues.

Wow, I really appreciate your transparency! This is pretty much what I'm hearing from a lot of people. I have heard the same thing about food basically just being unappealing, which makes me kind of sad because I certainly enjoy food. But I don't enjoy being overweight, so I guess pick your poison there. The strength things concerns me too. I've heard that you pretty much lose your muscle or have to work really really hard to retain it, and I do enjoy having my "old man strength." My wife definitely wants me to get on something, but I am concerned about all of the unknowns and like you said, who knows what will happen in 20 years (but it won't matter if I won't even make it 20 years). I'm happy for you, and I imagine your quality of life has improved tremendously.

My wife is on one of the needles, I don’t know which, and absolutely hates it

She is doing it does autoimmune issues. Not to specifically lose weight

Not a chance in hell I’d ever jab myself. I’ve seen what it does to her

I also don’t trust it long term but I’m not a doctor like Slyguy

I workout 4 days a week. We have a gym in our office. Nothing fancy but it’s fine. Free weights up to 100 and a cable machine. Some treadmills. I don’t have time to go to a regular gym with my kids schedule

I fast Monday through Thursday. It’s super easy once I got used to it. Water and black coffee until dinner. I love food but once I made it 10-14 days? Barely an inconvenience

My wife is a great cook so Monday through Thursday are pretty healthy

I eat whatever I want Friday through Sunday

I drink way too much beer

I’d lose 30 pounds in a month if I went dry. I have no interest in that

I fluctuate right around 230, which a lot is muscle because I do workout daily (I lift - not much cardio), but I’d like to be closer to 215

I’ll get there as we warm up here and I get out more

I have no idea how early I’ll die but I like the balance I have

Yeah, I think that's the thing that's so hard. For people like myself, it really does seem like "all or nothing." Like many people, I have had success when sticking to a very strict eating plan (I've lost 60 pounds twice), but I've never had success trying to eat in moderation, or the 80/20 plan or whatever. I have no doubt if I cut out all of the things you mentioned I'd lose 100 pounds in a year, but damn that sounds so miserable. And it was miserable when I did those things - having to say "no" to food at every single party/event/every day life. I feel very much like an alcoholic in a liquor store - the food/temptation is everywhere. That's why the semalgitude stuff sounds so appealing to me, because people say the "food noise" just goes away and their brain is actually clear and they are not distracted by food.

For anyone who doesn't understand (I wouldn't expect them to, especially alpha males/gym bros), it's horrible. I'm already thinking about what I'm going to have for dinner WHILE I'm eating lunch. I'm already thinking about what I'm going to have for breakfast while I'm in bed. It's honestly horrible. It might go away for 10 minutes after I eat (and feel miserable for overeating) but then comes right back, similar to a drug addict who takes a hit and swears he's never doing it again, but an hour later he's looking for his next fix.

So another person who feels miserable on the meds. Ugh.

I feel like the fasting thing might be my best bet. I've done it a few times and am always surprised at how much energy I have during the day when I've eating nothing. So, 4 days a week you do not eat anything until dinner?

She absolutely hates it. She’s down a lot of weight but she’d quit tomorrow if she didn’t have her autoimmune

Just her experience

Fasting sucks for the first 1-2 weeks but you will get used to it

My workout at lunch helps as it kills another hour. I’m really good at going from say 9:00 at night until 6:00 the next day with water and coffee

I can do a pretty easy 20 hour fast these days

Not on the weekend though. Haha

Correct

Monday through Thursday, unless I have some random event or something, I only eat dinner

I’m never usually hungry for breakfast - I love breakfast food, love it, but for dinner

Workout at lunch and I’ll drink enough water to get full

So I eat dinner depending on soccer practice between 6-9

And I’m good for the day

Like I said Friday - Sunday is a free for all
