Default Do you take vacation time for video game releases?

This is something that always struck me as weird. With NCAA 26 dropping this week a lot of people over on Operation Sports mention they time they take off for the release. Whether a day or a week, I find it absolutely insane to take time off for a video game.

If you are a streamer who generates income from playing, I get it, that's work. But just as someone who wants to play a lot, it's wild to me to take vacation for a game.

What say the masses?

I don't even take vacation time off to go on vacations, why would I take it off to play video games? Plus, the only system I have is a SNES classic that I modded to play every game ever released on the SNES.

I used to take days off for card breaks back when I was doing it a lot. Hard to get through 10-15 cases of Heritage when work gets in the way. I remember a lot of folks here used to do it too before wax prices dwarfed that business model. I'm not a gamer but I feel like it's a similar concept?

Who is even aware of video game release dates after the age of 18?

No, but I once took a vacation for a LOTR trilogy one-night event/premiere of the Return of the King featuring a live via satellite introduction from Peter Jackson. That was about as nerdy as it gets with me.

I have never taken time off for a video game release. I rarely play video games anymore as it is.

I skipped classes in college for a couple new releases.

I can't remember the last time I played a video game, nevermind entertaining the thought of taking a day off work to do so.

Too hard for you to move from the computer chair at “work” to the couch to play a video game?

How old are you?

I’m pretty sure you can upload video games right to your desktop, Gramps.

No, but when my kids were young, we used to go to Walmart for the "midnight release" of certain games. Never on a weekend, always on a school and work night! Yeah...I kind of miss it now that they are old!

I'm glad you think I'm as funny as Michael Scott.

I personally do not take time off for video game releases. If someone else wants to use their own personal time to do so, I say go for it. Have a wonderful day. Order take out. Drink your favorite beverage. Immerse yourself in the game.
