So..Jackson Merrill. No official player thread yet surprisingly, despite the dude being a top 20 prospect who may be the Padres starting center fielder on opening day before his 21st birthday. 2 other major leaguers can say that - Andruw Jones and The Kid.

Glad to have 4 True Rookie Parallels of this guy! BB21 Foreva.

PS - I started this thread while in the process of posting said cards on Ebay. I was curious about BO's collective take on the guy and there's no player thread. No intention on my part to "pump" these cards - they've been hiding in my PC for a good while and I figured I'd throw them up for sale around his debut. But Flame Away if offended!

Exactly. Peruse my activity on BO and you'll find exactly 0 pumper stuff. In the middle of writing the post I realized how it would look and so outed myself. But whatevs, as I said Flame Away.

Good luck trying to unload 21BB. Regardless of rookie card status, no one wants it.

Thanks. Agreed, he's definitely a contact first guy and the power may never fully develop into a plus skill - though he grades out at a 55 in power. Maybe a 20 HR cap with a great average and OBP? Playing at Petco certainly doesn't help.

Trying him out in center definitely shows the Padres have some confidence in his defensive abilities.

I just sold 7 Merrill PSA 10 refractors for $50 each, so I wouldn't say no one wants em. It certainly fizzled to a large extent though.

out of curiosity, if he might start in 2024 what makes his second issued bowman card in 2021 his "true rookie parallel"

Besides being his true rookie card based on Beckett's definition, that Bowman's Best 2021 card is his first Topps card with his actual picture on it, right?

Sorry to derail things further but this thread has kinda been a mess from the jump...I've since sold a gem Merrill atomic ref and a bunch of gem Carson Williams refractors...BB21 seems to be making a bit of a comeback.

I hit a purple /25 and blue /99 for his first hit Topps Now card, happy about that! I'm bummed I missed the Eclipse Edition card though, waiting to see if prices go down when people get the cards in hand to pick one of those up.

I routinely look for underpriced "Thrifty Thirty" guys (or whatever it was we decided to call those 30 RC subjects) and then clean out some COMC/eBay listings. I did both Merrill and Williams mini-runs but that was back in 2022-23. I'm not super high on him but I took down a few low-end Zac Veen listings today. With this approach, I totally will not mind explaining this story to my youngest when he's a bit older and have the punchline be "and none of these are worth anything at all"! I love the narrative of that set. It's so fun, so stupid and the 30 RCs run the gamut from "absolute worst case scenario" (Wander) and "guys who flamed out/never made it" to "certified blue chips" & "post-hype" guys with a few wild cards still waiting to be revealed. Perfect little microcosm of the prospecting market but spread over what will likely be 4+ (RC) classes in one release.

No cards except a Tincaps team set card and a team signed baseball from last season. Fun kid and looks to be the real deal at this level.

He’s done better than both Jackson Holliday and Jackson Chourio in MLB this year, which is surprising given being the Tito of the family.
