This info also makes me question the legitimacy of the whole EQL draw (and Topps releases in general) given the lack of transparency.

Yes, this happened. There was a small amount of discussion here on one of the threads the morning it happened. I'm very shocked this is the first actual thread about the situation.
What happened was Fanatics actually posted that morning that they would be selling cases online for what... $27xx. Then shortly after, BO posted online that they would pay $4550(I think) for cases. Time rolls around for the release and there's no cases, just boxes with a 3 box limit.

Of course there are plenty of peole out there with sealed cases now.
