Default 1991 Marvel Series 2 and 3 Grading Preferences

Just bought a large collection of sportscards and have several sets and singles as well as sealed boxes of this stuff. I am thinking of selling them but I know absolutely nothing of the comic cards. Do collectors prefer PSA over SGC, the reason I ask is because I have thousands and the condition of these are some of the best I have seen as well as sealed boxes. The prices on these are all over the place to say the least which kind of scares me on grading at $15 a card Is there a good market for these graded. Any advise would help

Psa, and they really need to be a 10 to be worth the sub.

The golden window for doing this was back during the pandemic when graded 90s marvel cards were through the roof.

Since then it has cooled off- majorly, for most graded 90s cards. PSA is the top dog for value in marvel, and it’s PSA 10 or bust basically. Although CGC does get some interest in marvel, more than in sports, PSA 10s will be top for premiums when selling.

The problem is it’s like $20-23 to grade a card. For base, anything less than a 10 and it’s basically losing money. Even if you get a 10, which is not easy, for many base cards in various sets it’s not even that much of a premium. The going rate of a Stan Lee 1990 Marvel Universe card in PSA 10 is about $120 (during pandemic was easily over $1000)- and that’s one of the best cards in the best early 90s sets…the “grail card”. Many avg PSA 10 bases can be as low as $30-60…not a big premium over the cost to grade.

One major exception is any chase card in PSA 10…they can carry some value, in some cases a lot of value- but are even harder to gem mint with hologram and foil surfaces. To give an idea…90 MU holos in psa 10 can be into thousands, and so can the 92 Masterpieces battle cards.

Generally- outside perfect looking insert cards, and maybe top tier base like Spider-Man and Wolverine, I would hesitate sending cards from old early 90s marvel collection to grade. If you have sealed boxes- those will carry a pretty sizeable premium over the contents and probably more lucrative to sell as sealed boxes.
