Default House of the Dragon - GOT prequel

I looked for the old GOT thread, but couldn't find it.

The prequel series House of the Dragon starts this Sunday. Anyone looking forward to this, or did the final episodes of GOT ruin it?

I have binge watching the last few seasons to remind me of what was going on.

I'm very interested, and won't be surprised if it sucks (I read all the books and watched the entire GoT series)

The little town where I grew up, there was a great Chinese restaurant called House of the Dragon. We always got sweet and sour pork, pepper steak, steamed rice and wonton soup

I am keeping my expectations low. Hopefully, this will be on par with GOT.

It would definitely be great if this could stick to the source material like GoT seasons 1 through 6 which is why those seasons were so good. However, once that well dried up and the show runners took over the creative responsibilities it ended so poorly that it made the entire series unwatchable. Already, I have read that the show runners of House of the Dragon decided that they would not stick to the source material which generally means trouble. I'll give it a try and just hope that the show is good.

That's actually what this new show is about, that wonderful restaurant!

It's set a few hundred years before the events of the main series.
Not a mere three of them, but instead dragons galore in this one!

The big "Lord of the Rings" show is kicking off on Amazon Prime shortly, too, right on the heels of "Sandman", which just made it's bow on NetFlix, where "Locke & Key" just dropped its third and final season. All that AND the new "Andor" Star Wars show on Disney+ is imminent. It's surely a good time for fans of fantasy adventure TV series.

Who dies first episode? Matt Smith or that girl in the poster in the OP?

I don't even know if that is possible. Certainly the Transformers franchise has attempted such a feat as well as the DC and Star Trek franchises but even as awful as those franchises attempt to be they can not even touch the epic awfulness that is Star Wars.

Now that I am sitting here thinking about it, Star Trek Discovery and Picard might be on equal ground with the regurgitated oversaturated nonsense being spewed out from the Star Wars franchise. This should give House of the Dragon hope.

Hoping for early years GOT, not the later - as everyone is I am assuming.

Previews look good so hoping for the best

The last season killed any hype I would have experienced with them. I'll watch eventually but no longer a popcorn event, maybe salt free rice cakes.

Don’t do that to yourself.

Good but if it’s more of the same story it will get old quick.

I enjoyed it. Favorite part was dude's armor during the games.

Too much blood and migraine-inducing screaming. It's as if they used enough fake blood for all eight seasons of GOT. Really predictable too. As soon as the pregnant queen showed up, you knew exactly what would happen.

Will watch next week but already feels like it's not worth keeping my subscription for this.

It should have proper opening credits next week.

Pretty good setup with plenty of intrigue to kick it off.
I think there are still a couple of bigger characters to be introduced shortly.

Liked it. Daemon has the potential to be an all-time character

Bit of a spoiler, but the information that Paddy / King relates to his daughter about the dream (which clearly extends through the ages down to Danaerys/GoT) means that sucession is much more important than everyone already thinks.

I did not find it compelling from the start. Matt Smith's Daemon character might be a bit flat, despite all the accoutrements of dragon, royalty, feats of arms etc.

Did they rush this to screen 2 weeks before the Silmarillion Tolkien adaptation on Amazon Prime drops...kicking off its 5 season run?

I also really enjoyed it. My only critique would be outside of Daemon it certainly seemed to lack compelling characters with much depth. Cersei, Jamie, Tyrion, Tywin, Varys, Joffrey, the Hound, Ramsey, Danny, they are what made the show great not some dragons flying around. That being said still lots of time to rectify that problem, hopefully the writers were up to it.
