Default Where are we at on Salvador Perez?

With Perez on the cusp of leading the majors in HRs, which could arguably be considered one of the greatest seasons ever by a catcher by people who don’t look back more than five years, do we agree his prices should be skyrocketing? He should have some MVP consideration since a team’s success doesn’t mean squat for MVP voting anyway, right?

I have a blue Bowman Chrome rookie refractor or something like that someplace in the house so I’d like to get this hype train rolling.

If this listing was legit, someone got an amazing deal on one of these recently.

I have a green Xfractor on the way right now.

His prices are pretty high right now for a 31 yr old catcher who's having a career year.

If he played the Rangers 20 times a year then maybe he’d have a few games under his belt.

Twins and Tigers will have to suffice

Salvy!

I'm just too biased to give an honest hobby assessment. He's a bonafide hero here in the KC area (surpassed by Mahomes alone), as he was obviously a huge part of the World Series title win in 2015. He has an awesome personality and is very active within the local community.

Plus this:

I like that they're giving him some time at DH. Great catcher, but better to keep him healthy for his big bat.

When discussing Edgar Martinez and his HOF career, I was told he took steroids due to him having career years after age 30.
So I guess we should assume Perez is doping if you believe that guys logic.

Well, zero no hitters thrown against those two.

Rangers AND Seattle both twice this year

Prior to today, his HR splits were 26 as a C, 14 as DH. He will probably break the record for most HR by someone that catches, but won't break most HR by a catcher if that makes sense.

As a Mariner fan, I hate the guy.

I mean, not really. But he destroyed them in the last series

A very good player having a career year. As Eric said above, he’s baseball good which doesn’t always equate to hobby value. He will always have a following in KC but not so much in the mainstream collecting world.

Impressive season in more ways than one.

How often does a guy hit 40+ HRs with an OPS under 900?

If you like catchers with strong home fan support and long careers , Molina > Salvi

Yeah....good question....he's only got a .861 OPS (128 OPS+).

Same amount of home runs (40) as walks (21) + doubles (19).

You might want to check recent prices on his 2010/2011 stuff. There are very few choices from those years, and what there is sells pretty well at the moment.

The resident Negative Nancy has entered the chat:

Salvy should be HOF bound with his resume but geez you’ve got sticker auto relics from Museum Collection /299 going for $100!!!
