Used to be the biggest Leaf apologist out there, but they've jumped the shark the past couple years.

Also find it humorous that the sell sheet says on-card Jim Brown autos and the mock-up looks a lot like a sticker. Those would be the redeeming quality though, since there's no way to tell the Brown is unlicensed.

The base auto design is busy with no real purpose and those duals are looking very Spectra-esque.

I too, was a Leaf apologist... I tolerated Leaf Metal Football from 2014-2018. Mostly because of the on-card autographs. But the moment they went all stickers in 2019 I tapped out. I still have a small appreciation for Valiant Metal Football. At least that product didn't switch over to 100% stickers until 2021.

Which is funny, because Jim Brown has always been one of the biggest unlicensed haters out there.

His signings come with a public warning. Jim will not sign jersey numbers or unlicensed jerseys. He will not sign custom helmets, only NFL licensed helmets.

I once saw him refuse to sign a pile of 16x20s a dealer had in the back room of a card show. Because they didnt have NFL holos on them.

And yet Leaf is OK I guess.

I'll grab some singles if Brock Bowers is on the checklist. Always happy to add more cards to that collection regardless of license.

Excited here! I love Leaf & Wild Card. The cards look great and this IS a product where you can usually make your money back from a box, unlike a Panini product hobby box. I will buy a lot of this, it's a great value. Are the cards as valuable as a licensed product? Of course not, but they are a lot cheaper to begin with. The only hobby boxes I plan to buy in 2023 are Leaf & Wild Card

Nope, just a guy that hates spending $300-$600 on a hobby box to get $60-$100 worth of cards if I am lucky

I’m with you most of the way on what you’re saying. Nonlicensed and college uni is a nonstarter for so many and that’s why you’ll catch flack for your comment. That said, “value” pulled relative to cost ratio is there and better than most all panini products. We’re not talking about ceiling or value of “best” pulls. That’s no contest. But the average resale value for cost is much better in products like this.

All that said, I’ve been a bit underwhelmed by real recent Leaf releases. I was very disappointed in Pro Set Metal in particular. I don’t know but it was far worse than 2021 release. Also I gotta be honest licensed bowman U with hobby boxes around the same price as Leaf Metal to me my limited $$$ goes to Bowman U Chrome.

I’ll agree with you. Just did a jumbo case of Metal Draft baseball. People on here don’t seem to hype Leaf much, but I doubled my money already and still have more cards still to sell. Had like 35 1/1’s in my case. Surprisingly these unlicensed cards sell on eBay.

I’ll second this. Tons of parallels to be able to accommodate the low numbering (nothing over /10) but baseball was about $25 an auto and is easily the highest-floor product I’ve opened in a while. If they load this up with lower-numbered desirable names, this will easily be worth the cheap price.

I will say this: the first two rainbows I ever completed were Leaf Metal rainbows.

So I can’t say too much negative about this product.

Really? I like them. Only thing I can do without is the XRC on the upper left. But overall I think they look slick. If you change your mind I will sell you this #'d /10 Platinum Blue for $100 net to me

I have a real love/hate relationship with Leaf. I have no issue with "unlicensed" cards at all, I can understand why some people do but to me having a logo on the helmet doesn't suddenly make it a real card worth having in my collection. And I like the lower price point, sometimes I just want to bust open a box of cards with autographs for under $150 and they scratch that itch.

My issue with Leaf is they've just completely killed the specialness of low serial cards. Look at 2022 Pro Set Metal. Just in the base autograph set there are nine 1/1s and 30 (!!!) other parallels between /5 and /2 per player. And that's just the base auto set! And buyers have of course noticed. If all the cards are low serial than none are, it just comes across as trying to make a card seem special when pulled out of the box when really its just a normal autograph card. I opened a box of 2022 Metal just yesterday and got a 1/1, a /3, a /2, and a /5 but as far as re-sell goes I'd probably struggle getting my money back on the box ($100). They are going in my 'check back in a year' stack, I did get some NFL names but the singles value just isn't really there.

I'd like to feel at least a slight rush of excitement pulling a /2 auto from a box of cards, but I don't with Leaf. Still, besides them flooding the market with low serial cards, I do think they offer a valuable service to those that can't afford Panini. I currently prefer Onyx since they are on-card and I like their more simple card designs, but I'll still buy a Leaf box or two each major football release.

It's the same ones over and over that complain about every product released. Every company. Has either company ever made a product that was to your satisfaction?

Panini = no, they have never made an original product that was to my satisfaction. However they have continued products they bought from other, better loved companies that I like.

Leaf = yes but they are starting to play out Pro Set by re-releasing the same 1989, 1990, and quasi-1991 designs. If they want to keep re-releashing the same 90s stuff, Leaf baseball had some awesome looks too. Leaf Black Gold would be amazing to bring back, so would 1990 Leaf baseball.

Leaf Metal was cool until they went sticker autographs. Their decision to have so many different parallels is fair to bust their chops on. I want them to be better and continue to be a viable alternative to Topps to keep them somewhat honest. Look at this insanity from 2022 Pro Set Metal. 66 different parallels! 8 one of one parallels!
