Default Musician Autographs

I dont venture too far outside of the baseball forums on here, and I'm sure most of this one is dedicated to cards, ut I've been collecting as many autographs of musicians/bands that I enjoy. These are just my current signed CD booklets. The frames are cheap ones from hobby lobby.

The mattes are just white, but it looked to plain and boring for me so I painted the mattes to go along with the albums. Just got the 3 unframed ones in today. Planning on red matte for Alter Bridge, black for Nothing More, and probably a darker/burnt orange for From Ashes to New.

Not pictured are 8x10s signed by Slash, Huey Lewis, and Tommy Lee and vinyl albums signed by Shinedown, Gary Clark Jr., and Dee Snider

I have a signed photo of Roger Daltrey that looks similar to this. I have some other random signed pieces (Sean Gadd from Grouplove...who?? I know, was from a DA box). I have a great Don Henley cut signature though.

Thanks! Have a total of 3 signed CDs coming to me still. Need 5 more frames, but they weren't on sale this week. Why pay $10 when they will more than likely be 50% off next week.

Sadly, i have yet to get the vinyls in a frame yet. Im too cheap to pay for a professional frame job that costs way more than the vinyls are worth. I do want the vinyls displayed in a similar fashion to the CDs though, especially when a couple of them are colored vinyl.

I still need to grab a Pete Townshend autograph. Im a huge fan of The Who as my dad listened to them all the time while I was growing up. Would love to get a vinyl signed by at least Pete and Roger. Forget getting one with Keith Moon as he's pretty pricey

Buy a bevel cutter on amazon and cheap art mats at the craft store. Then all you need is a ruler, a straight edge, and a piece of cardboard to cut everything on. Worth the small initial investment.

I don't have anything currently but have always wanted to look into it. Seems so little of the stuff on eBay is authenticated properly so I tend to not find anything. That and the guys I would want are expensive.

Nice stuff, OP. I take it the Jared Leto is the Newbury Comics signed CD.
That's a great source for inexpensive, authentic autographs for those who don't know.

On certified trading cards, I have David Bowie, Curt Smith from Tears for Fears, two different of Johnny Rotten from Goodwin Champions, ad Mike Love from the Beach Boys, plus a few I'm sure I'm forgetting. I've got a Breeder CD signed by Kim and Kelley Deal and sheet music from REM signed by all except drummer Bill Berry, who had left the band when they signed it.

Default I used to have some top guitarists...

I slowly got rid of a bunch of my better pieces like Townsend, Clapton, and Stevie Ray after realizing my kids had no interest in collecting them. I still have some decent autos like Ali and Nimoy that they might put out at a garage sale after I die. I don’t go out of my way anymore to get things signed.

I have this frame still since most are personalized. I ordered the custom cut matte online. I’ll find the site and update this later. It didn’t cost too much.

It is. My sister gave it to me for Christmas this year. In fact all but 2 of them are from Newburys- Diamante and Kalin Krohe (local kid that I'm friends with). Roger Daltrey wS one that was offered and sold out very quickly

Those are awesome! GNR is one of the ones I'd love to get a full band album or photo of, but they get too pricey. Foo Fighters is another I'd love to get on their Concrete and Gold vinyl since that was the tour that I saw them on. Ideally, my goal is to get a cd/vinyl of most of the artists that I've seen live, which isn't too many-
Styx
Doobie Brothers
Foo Fighters
5FDP
Breaking Benjamin
From Ashes to New- Done
George Thorogood
Diamante- Done
Bad Wolves
Sixx AM
Shinedown- Done
As Lions
Grace Potter
Kansas- Have three signed guitar picks

Saw these bands, but not in a huge rush to get anything from them as they aren't necessarily favorites or they've gone through a lot of lineup changes-
Saving Abel
Crazy Town
Saliva
Trapt
Tantric
Alien Ant Farm
As Lions

I'm sure I'm missing a few, but they can't be too good if I'm forgetting about them.

Here's my Johnny Rottens:

Never thought this famously taciturn frontman would sign cards.

I also have the Billy Idol Pop Century autograph card, a Roger Daltrey signed 8x10, and several Barry Manilow signed photos that I got from a non-sports card dealer that was closing out all of his stock.

From Newburys, I got Tenacious D, Mike Love (Beach Boys), Ian MacCollough (Echo and the Bunnymen), and Jeff Goldblum booklets.

I've got a signed and framed album flat from 3 of the 4 members of the Rutles group (no Eric Idle, but he's probably the easiest signature to get given his continuing fame). In the same spirit, I have two of the three members of Spinal Tap on certified cards (McKean and Shearer. The final member Christopher Guest has no signed cards).

From my Simpsons guest voice collection, I have Robert Goulet (as yer grampa), Tom Jones (ask yer gramma), and this Elton John:

Here are two recent BAS submissions: Judas Priest Firepower CD Cover from a signing in early last year & an Axl Rose auto that I've had for almost 30 years now..

I see a few GNR fans here so here's the story behind the Axl autograph you may find interesting..

For those old enough to remember it was 1992 and Axl pulled one of his typical tantrums of the time at a show in I believe St. Louis where a warrant was issued for his arrest for starting a riot. Later when he flew into JFK airport in NYC he was taken into custody for the warrant.

I was in my mid 20's at the time working in Queens which is the borough that both JFK and LaGuardia airports are in so any arrests there would go through the Queens precincts and courts.

Word was out that Axl was arrested & since my Dad worked central booking at Queens Criminal Court at the time I called down to see if he happened to see Axl and he told me he did and that he was polite and seemed real cool and he asked him if he would sign something for his son which he was happy to do.

My Dad had a copy of what was called a prisoner movement sheet which shows the people brought into the holding cells at the court at that time. I was surprised he wasn't booked under his real name but his is the last name listed on the sheet, Rose WAxl.

Over the years the paper was folded, put into books and probably lost 3-4 times as well as getting torn on the bottom and being cheap NYC 25+ year old paper was turning brown on the edges until I finally decided to trim it down & send it in for the encapsulation early this year.

On a side note the first band I was a fan of was Kiss and my Dad also met Peter Criss when he was arrested at one of the airports for carrying a firearm. I had his auto too but that one was lost along the way.

Priest also signed for Newbury, also picked up a couple of Kiefer Sutherland's from there as his latest CD recently dropped. I have about 200 or so CDs mostly from shows others from official band websites or Newbury.

Saw the 5,6,7,8's (Kill Bill Band) on Friday night, I was able to get Yoshiko's (lead guitar and vocals) hand written set list from the stage. She signed it for me after the show.

Try an' post shots of all those Newburys, especially. I'd love to see a whole bunch at once. While they're great about getting and distributing the autograph booklets, the actual autograph isn't shown on the website.

Here's my lone order:

Tenacious D, Ian from Echo, Leto from 30 Seconds to Mars, Jeff Goldblum, Mike Love from the Beach Boys

Tragically Hip (X2) from Newbury Comics. Canada’s official rock band. I didn’t expect to get the whole band to sign.

Sadly, the lead singer (Gord Downie) died of brain cancer a few years later. Once he underwent palliative surgery and treatment, he decided that he wanted to tour Canada one last time. The final concert (in their hometown) was broadcast live and commercial free in Canada by the CBC. I think it was the second highest rated broadcast in Canadian history.

RIP Gord

My Stevie Ray signed album may not have passed “modern” authentication. I got it from a know autograph hound, Young Charlie, who worked the NYC area. He got Stevie at about 2am as he exited a limo at the Plaza Hotel. Stevie was kind of out of it and scribbled his auto. This was mid 80s before he cleaned himself up. His auto was nothing like the clear full sig he did when he was sober.

I knew and trusted Young Charlie so I knew it was real and had a story with it. The guy I sold it to a few years later also knew to trust the story.

Peace,
Vinny
PS: took me a few minutes to rembember his last name, Biggs, the son of a sportscard dealer Charlie Biggs back then.

Nice memento of the man.

Newbury also had inexpensive autographs from Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries right around the time of her tragic early passing.

I don't have pics right now, but I've been lucky with my local radio station and got to meet a lot of bands.

The biggest artist I met was Usher and then probably the Black Keys.

I have some things framed but need to work up more once I get my house.

Off the top of my head I also have sigs from Bastille and Cold War Kids and The Neighborhood.

There were a few artists who I didn't have a sharpie for or where they didn't have time to sign, only photos.
